Let's have fun while we practice our reading fluency together! Reader's Theaters are a favorite from helping readers become more confident and fluent! They will learn about different punctuation and how our sentences are spoken differently based off of the punctuation. They will practice reading sight words and short sentences to increase their reading ability. Learners will interpret how a character is feeling and give that character a special voice.

In this ongoing small group class, we will be introduced to a different reader's theater each week. The learner will be assigned a role. I will share my screen so that they have access to the words. Learners do not need the book to enjoy this class! I will provide a PDF file that you are welcome to print. I know some learners learn best with paper in their hand.

We will read through the story one time to practice reading in sentences and identify unfamiliar words. Then we will do a quick review of words that we might not know how to pronounce or what they mean. We will also talk about the character and how to read dramatically. If there is a phonics skill a learner is struggling with, we will practice that skill so that they become more confident!

Learners will practice creating voices for their character, interpret emotions from their character, and pay attention to how different punctuation makes sentences sound different!

Finally, we will read through a second time using fun voices and acting the story out! Learners may work together to complete a Story Map and a Story Scroll to reinforce reading comprehensions skills. If time permits, we will read a fairy tale or a fractured fairy tale or participate in enriching activities, such as brainstorming a sequel!
