This class explores the laws governing international humanitarian and refugee law. The class focuses on refugee processing. 

In this class we will explore refugee processing and international human rights. We will explore the United States' international obligations under the Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees. You'll learn about human rights law, refugee resettlement, and refugee processing. The class looks at this issue through the prism of refugees at the Kakuma camp in Northwest Kenya. 

The class is in lecture format, with a focus on the process used by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the various International agencies involved. What are our international obligations to give refuge to those seeling protection? That is what the course examines. 

No prior experience or knowledge is needed.
