Lengua y literatura inglesas de cuarto y quinto grado

This is an ongoing class and students can come and go as they need!

This class is for fourth and fifth grade students to learn writing, reading, vocabulary, and grammar skills. Each week will have a specific focus related to fourth and fifth grade ELA standards that will engage students.

This is an enrichment class, meant to enhance whatever other curriculum your learner is currently doing.  

My goal is to make learning FUN but also appropriately challenging. Students will be encouraged to participate, answer questions, and share their thinking in an encouraging atmosphere. Please let me know if your learner prefers not to be called upon.

Some weeks will include graphic organizers, grade-appropriate texts, and other handouts that will be posted in the classroom. Students are encouraged to bring a pencil and notebook to class to allow for brainstorming, writing, and other activities.

Week of Mar 3rd - Compare the themes of two fiction texts and complete a writing response

Week of Mar 10th - Debate writing (persuasive writing with reasons and evidence)

Week of Mar 17th - Explore how a fable’s moral is developed through its plot

Week of Mar 24th - Explain the main idea and key details of a text

Week of Mar 31st - Describe how the setting influences the events in a fiction text

Week of April 7th - Fact vs. Opinion – Evaluating information

Week of April 14th - Author’s Purpose & Point of View – Persuade, inform, entertain

Week of April 21st - Comparing points of view

Week of April 28th - Making Inferences and Drawing Conclusions - Understanding implicit vs. explicit details

Week of May 5th - OFF

Week of May 12th - Figurative Language - Identifying and interpreting similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole

Week of May 19th - Summarizing Texts - Practicing paraphrasing without plagiarizing
