1-2 horas por semana. There will be a number of assignments and tasks that the students will be completing throughout the course. These assignments will be send to and explained by the teacher, from this point the students will be responsible to complete and submit using the Outschool Classroom.

In this 12 week course, we will follow the curriculum for "Foundations in Personal Finance for High School Students" by Dave Ramsey.  This class will be taught in the Zoom classroom, using a number of methods including teacher-led lecture, as well as using videos from the "Foundations in Personal Finance for High School Students" to help enhance student understanding of the topics being taught by the teacher.  Additionally, the teacher will utilize the Outschool Classroom for the posting of out of class discussion topics and directed questions that the students will be responsible for answering, as well as the students will be assigned a number of assignments and tasks to complete that will need to be uploaded to the Outschool classroom at various points throughout the 12 weeks of the class.  Some of these activities include using a "Student-Budget Worksheet" to create a budget, completing a plan of "cash-flowing college," activities showing the total impact of debt, "Student-insurance Needs Assignment," & 2 activities outlining the importance of compound interest and starting investing early, to name just a few of the assignments and task students will complete.

The 12 week schedule will be as follows:

Week 1:  Introduction to Personal Finance- An Introduction to personal finance, as well as a discussion of use of credit in American money management.  **Students will analyze their "money personality"...spender or saver, and send the teacher a brief assessment of both advantages and opportunities stemming from this "money personality," students will post this exercise to the classroom board and the teacher will use this to create interaction with the student, as well as foster student to student discussion.
Week 2:  Savings- Importance of saving, how to save, and the 3 reasons to save. **Students will complete case studies on savings methods and the importance of saving money.  They will submit this to the teacher for review.
Week 3:  Budgeting- Learning the process of budgeting and how to create a successful budget.  **Students will complete a student budget form based off of their own income and outflow.  They will submit this to the teacher for evaluation and correction if needed.
Week 4:  Debt- Identifying how people use debt and how devastating it can truly be.  Identify the concept and purpose of a credit score and consumer debt organizations.  **Students will complete case studies emphasizing the impact of debt, including credit card, car loans, and student loans.  This will be submitted to the teacher for evaluation and discussion.
Week 5:  Life After High School- Discussion of education and career options, as well as how to avoid debt and build cash flow.
Week 6:  Consumer Awareness- How consumer behaviors, effect buying power.   **Students will send the teacher a summary of the last 2-3 purchases they made, including how marketing influenced their decision to purchase the type and make of that product.
Week 7:  Bargain Shopping- The importance of bargain shopping as part of a successful financial plan.
Week 8:  Investing and Retiring- Discussion of types of investments and guidelines for investing.  **Students will send the teacher a short paragraph outlining their investing goals for the future, and what tools they are interested in using to achieve their investing goals.
Week 9:  Insurance- Identifies the purpose of financial risk management as well as the appropriate and most cost-effective risk management strategies.  ** Students will complete case studies outlining the different types of major insurances and their need for them, and submit to the teacher, who will thereafter use this to direct interaction through the classroom board..
Week 10:  Money and Relationships- A look at the differences in various people attitudes and values toward handling money and personal finance.
Week 11:  Career and Taxes- Pursuing your career in your strengths and different types of taxes.  **In preparation for the last class, student should Identify 2-3 charities or organizations that would like to support, as well as why and how they wish to support them.  This will be submitted via the Classroom board to create discussion prior to the final class.
Week 12:  Giving- The importance of giving of your time, money and talents to serve others.  

*This class will be taught with the permission of Ramsey Education, as well as the teacher has his certification to teach this course for Ramsey Education.

Students will learn and understand how to manage money and build wealth in order to set themselves up for successful financial futures. We will do this by examining all of the major topics in personal finance including but not limited to debt, investing, giving, taxes, and budgeting.  Students will seek to apply the knowledge that they gain through a wide variety of activities including setting financial goals, building a budget, and setting plans for investing and retirement.

I have a Master of Business Administration.  I have 3 years of experience teaching business, economics, and finance classes at the Junior/Career college level, in addition to 3 years of classroom experience teaching middle and high school students, and 1 year of experience as an elementary & middle school principal.    Finally, I have 4 four years experience as a National Football League Players Association Certified Contract Advisor, during which time I negotiated contracts, as well as helped to educate my clients as to the proper ways to prepare themselves for financial independence after their sports careers had ended.  It is this same passion to help young people build financial security and freedom that I enables me to guide students.  Additionally, I hold my certificate to teach the Dave Ramsey "Foundations in Personal Finance for High School Students" course.
