During the next eight weeks, we will discover how a vacuum transforms a squirrel into a superhero and helps a self proclaimed cynic. Learners will read and discuss "Flora and Ulysses" by Kate DiCamillo. This chapter book will help learners explore deep and meaningful themes and take away valuable life lessons while laughing at quirky characters! The first half of the class will be a read aloud, and in the second half of the class we will discuss the chapters. Learners will talk about visualization, theme, and connections that they make to the story. Learners are encouraged to think deeply and decide if they are pessimists, optimists, or realists. This story will build learners vocabulary and world view. Themes such as love and hope will be explored and learners will be encouraged to share any connections that they have to the text. Learners will compare and contrast characters and discover how they have voices that need to be shared with the world. I will do an engaging read aloud with dramatic voices, and lead a discussion.
