**PLEASE NOTE** This is a SELF-PACED class and is PRE-RECORDED. THIS MEANS STUDENTS WILL WATCH THE PRE-RECORDED VIDEO. There are no live meetings. All interactions between students and the teacher will happen on the class page.
This class will be presented via powerpoint. Students will upload images of their assignments for the teacher to see and comment on. This is particularly important if a final grade is required for homeschool or charter school credit.
Why Self-Paced?
*MY Self-Paced classes ALWAYS cost less than the live versions of the same class!
*Self-Paced classes are an excellent choice for families with busy schedules.
*Content is exactly the same as live classes, at a lower fee.
*Students can work at an independent pace.
*Self-Paced classes are fantastic for international students whose time zone doesn't match the teacher's (US Mountain Time),
*Self-Paced classes are a great alternative for students who are uncomfortable with live video chat.

Our Self-Paced format will be as follows:
Content: Video demonstration of the process will be posted. Videos will vary in length depending on the type of art being presented. Some may be as short as 10 or 15 minutes while others could be ½ hour or more. Student work is expected to take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour, depending upon the student’s preferred pace.

Drawing Assignments: Students spend time completing their artwork and submit it via the classroom.

Submit Assignment: Students are required to post photos of their completed artwork in the classroom on the designated post. Keep in mind, uploading artwork for the teacher to see is important for assessment and feedback.

In this companion class to "Beware the Eye of the Dragon," students will adapt their skills for creating dragon eye designs to a 3-dimensional medium.

Session1: Students will sketch a design for a dragon eyeball on paper, color using markers or colored pencils, and then use it as a reference for painting the image on the flat side of a "glass glob." Lines, shapes and other details will be discussed as the work is completed. Students need to save their glass eye or eyes (the glass pieces come in a bag full, so there are several opportunities to make great eyes!).

Session 2: Using the clay of choice (recommendations are listed in the materials list below), students will practice shaping, rolling, and attaching small pieces to create eyelids, scales, etc. A variety of tools gathered around the house will be used to create textures in the clay. A partially bent/cut paperclip OR jewelry wire will be used to make a "bail," or hanger for the pendant.

If the clay is to be baked in an oven, parental guidance will be required. If the clay is air-dry, it should NOT be placed in an over, but left to dry over several days and then can be painted.

Orientación para padres
Parental guidance only needed in case of oven-baked clay (recommended) being used for the project. Parents should follow temperature and baking time instructions on clay packaging, and allow the piece to cool completely before handling.
Lista de útiles escolares
I've tried to give several options to fit different budgets and crafting situations. If you have specific questions, feel free to message me through the classroom!

For eyeball:
Clear glass "gems," Link to Dollar Tree: https://www.dollartree.com/clear-glass-accent-gems-14oz-bags/105572

Acrylic paint OR Sharpie markers in black and different colors. This is for painting the pupil and colors of the iris.

For space around the eye/eyelids/scales, there are choices of types of clay or modeling compound:
Oven baked clay:
Sculpey 2 oz bricks (my personal choice) come in a variety of colors. You can find selections here: https://www.michaels.com/search?q=sculpey
Fimo is similar to Sculpey, and Michael's also has their own Craft Smart brand. Prices vary. More than one color can be fun to mix and blend.

Air Dry Clay:
Model Magic is lightweight, Crayola air dry clay, and DAS clay are all great choices. They vary in price and there is usually more in a package than the Sculpey, Fimo or Craft Smart clay, but they do not come in the wide variety of colors. In this case, I recommend buying white clay and painting it after it dries. Here is a link to a page that shows all of them: https://www.michaels.com/search?q=air%20dry%20clay

Other materials:
Paperclip(s) to create a "bail" for hanging the pendant on a chain, cord or string. Chains, cords and strings can be found at Michaels as well.
paintbrushes (tiny details will be painted, so small, pointed brushes are really needed)
bowl of water
paper towels
things around the house that can be used to impress textures: straws, toothpicks, ball-point pens, screen, anything you might have at home that will make the texture of the clay look dragon-like!
aluminum foil (this is what we can use to create the clay pendant part and transfer it directly to the oven for oven-bake clay).
Cookie sheet if clay is to be baked
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.

As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down art lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
