What can you expect from this class? In this class, we will learn about the inventions and early cameras that lead us to where we are today in photography. We will also learn about the photographic techniques used by early photographers and learn from examples of their work and even some of their 'bloopers'. This will be an overview of the history and beginnigs of photography. By looking at examples of cameras in zoom with the teacher, and in photo slides, we will see what old cameras looked like and how they worked. We will answer questions like: "What kinds of pictures did the first cameras take?" We will also learn about the aspects of film photography that photographers still use today and how they relate to modern photo technology. Let's find out: "Why do modern cameras use ISO?" "What is Exposure?" "What does it mean to develop a photograph?" "Can we still use dark rooms?" "What is a dark room?" This class will be a mix of discussion and live demonstrations as well as slides. We will see real cameras from Teacher Tamea's collection (dating back to the 1920's). Tamea will welcome questions and discussion. A film camera or knowledge of film process is not required for the class. We will not be taking or developing any film for this class. I would love everyone to have a love of photography. A photography assignment will not be given in the class, but I hope it will inspire each student to try out a film camera for themselves!
Metas de aprendizaje
My goal is for each student to leave class with an understanding of the beginnings of photography. More than that, I want them to feel inspired by where photography has been and how we can use that knowledge in our own at home photography projects.

Hello there!
Who am I?!
Hi! I'm Tamea! I'm a photographer and I have been a professional photographer for more than 10 years. In that time I am proud to have been published in Billboard Magazine, in Calendars, on clothing and merchandise, and publications around the world. I specialize in travel, live events, and portrait photography and I bring each of these specialities to my classes. I have been teaching and sharing my love of photography for years, and I am glad to be here to share my love of photography with your learner!
Thanks to wonderful teachers I have had in my life, I went from taking pictures and developing them in a dark room for fun, to taking pictures that were published around the world.
I welcome you to see my work at photobytamea.com. While we will focus on many kinds of photography in class, you can see samples of my own work here.
In my photography classes, I will use hands on activities and kind critiques to advance learning and confidence in taking pictures.
When I am not here, I am always with my cameras and take pictures even on my days off. My favorite photo adventures always include my puppy, Chaplin, who loves to tag along. She will be in some of my photo examples in classes. She's a cutie!
General Class Policies:
- Most important! My classroom is a safe and inclusive place! Learners are expected to treat each other with kindness and respect. Bullying will not be tolerated and I reserve the right to remove any student who treats other learners disrespectfully.
- If a scheduled class does not meet the minimum enrollment, I may contact the parent approximately 24 hours before class time to offer to either transfer their learner to a new day and time. If requested, I may choose to teach the class at the original time.
- Classes will begin on time, even if all learners have not yet arrived.
- If no learners are present in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes into the scheduled time before exiting the classroom. This will be considered a Student no show.
- If I am late because of having technical challenges myself, I will offer to stay late to make up the missed time, or transfer learners to a new session.
-Please note: Outschool requires verification of each learner. This means that unless Outschool has verified your learner, I will require learners to turn on their live cameras for a beginning of class check in. If cameras are not working or learners are not comfortable with this, please contact Outschool help for verification before class begins. Learner's may be placed in the waiting room while they are resolving their camera issues. I will not offer transfers or refunds in the event that this policy is not followed. This is for the safety and security of learners on the platform.
