1 hora por semana. There will not be required homework in this class. However, sometimes students will need to finish up their writing at home. We also provide an optional homework assignment each week.

🌟 Welcome!🌟

In this fun and interactive English Language Arts class, students will work on fifth and sixth-grade writing, reading, and grammar skills through creative and engaging activities. Each week will focus on a different aspect of fifth/sixth-grade English Language Arts.

🔹 Twice Weekly Live Meetings: 🗓️ We will meet twice a week to learn together.

🔹 Optional Homework: 📚 Students will be given optional homework each week. This homework will build on the class content and reinforce our learning.

Writing Weeks: 📝 Students will receive comprehensive instructions along with creative writing projects to spark imagination and hone their writing skills.

Reading Weeks: 📖 Our reading classes will focus on reading, analyzing texts, and participating in discussions, with a reduced emphasis on writing during these weeks.

Week of June 24- Reading- We will study character traits.

Week of July 1- Reading-  We will work on our fiction reading comprehension.

Week of July 8- Poetry writing- We will write triangle triplet poetry.

Week of July 15- Writing-  We will work on persuasive writing.

Week of July 22 - Reading comprehension- We will learn about author’s purpose (entertain).

Week of July 29- Reading/Writing- We will learn about identifying problems and solutions.

Week of August 5 - Writing- We will learn about descriptive writing.

Week of August 12- Reading- We will work on our nonfiction reading comprehension.

Week of August 19- Writing- We will read and write interviews.

Week of August 26- Reading Comprehension- We will learn about finding the main idea and details.

Week of September 2 -We will work on our fiction reading comprehension.

Week of September 11- Writing - We will write personal narratives. 

Week of September 18- Reading- Compare and contrast.

Week of September 25- Reading- We will learn about setting.  

Week of October 2- Poetry- We will be reading and creating diamonte poems. 

Week of October 9- Reading/Writing- We will look at facts and opinions.

Week of October 16- Reading- We will examine a fictional text.  

Week of October 23- Writing- We will work on descriptive writing. 

Week of October 30- Figures of Speech - We will learn the figures of speech.

Week of November 6- Writing- Character creation. 

Week of November 13- Poetry- Cinquain poetry.

Week of November 20- Reading- We will work on the sequence of events. 

Week of November 27- Reading- Authors’ purpose- persuade.

Week of December 4- Reading- We will learn about finding the main idea and details. 

Week of December 11- Writing - We will write pro/con paragraphs.  

Week of December 18- Reading- We will learn about claims and reasons. 

Winter Break for Two Weeks

Week of January 8- Writing- Letter writing.   

Week of January 15- Reading- We will learn about inferences and conclusions.  

Week of January 22- Reading- We will examine folktales. 

Week of January 29- Writing- We will write a business letter. 

Week of February 5- Writing- We will write and read interviews.

Week of February 12-  Poetry Writing- We will examine and write tanka poetry. 

Week of February 19- Reading- We will examine fictional short stories.

Week of February 26- Reading - We will be reading and analyzing a narrative text with a focus on character analysis.  

Week of March 4- Writing- We will work on persuasive writing.  

Week of March 11- Poetry - We will be reading and creating haikus. 

Week of March 18- Reading/Writing- Problems and solutions. 

Week of March 25- Writing- We will work on procedural writing.  

Week of April 2- Reading- We will read and examine a fiction short story.

Week of April 8- Writing- We will work on descriptive writing.

Week of April 15- Reading- We will examine two fictional texts.  

Week of April 22- Reading- We will do a close read of a nonfiction text. 

Week of April 29- Reading- We will learn about authors' purpose.  

Week of May 6- Writing- We will learn about procedural writing.  

Week of May 13-  Writing- We will create a personal narrative.  

Week of May 20- Reading- We will learn about narrative point of view.

Week of May 27- Reading- We will examine nonfiction texts.  

Week of June 3- Poetry- We will examine and write free verse poetry.  

Week of June 10- Writing- We will be learning about plot.

Week of June 17- Writing- We will write a personal narrative.

You are welcome to join the class at any time, and each week stands independently without building on the previous one.📅✨

This comprehensive class focuses on all aspects of English Language Arts, including reading, grammar, and writing. Our sessions often involve engaging discussions, group activities, brainstorming sessions, and the opportunity to express opinions. 💡🤝

We (usually) have a couple of minutes of optional off-topic sharing at the end of each class.  This allows students to connect with each other and share things that are going on in their lives outside the classroom. 🎉

🌟This is an inclusive class and all learners are welcome.  

📖The reading level for this class is Reading A to Z Level X-Z2 or 831-1120L.  If you are not sure if this is a good fit for your learner, please reach out!

This relaxed English Language Arts class will go through the fifth and sixth-grade curriculum in a creative and engaging way.  We can't wait to meet your learner in the classroom!  📚🚀
