Students will learn the National Standards for Science for Grade five Science. 
The following areas of science will be taught:

Earth Sciences:

Earth, Solar System and Galaxies
5-ESS1-1 Earth's Place in the Universe
Support an argument that the apparent brightness of the sun and stars is due to their relative distances from the Earth.
5-ESS1-2 Earth's Place in the Universe
Represent data in graphical displays to reveal patterns of daily changes in length and direction of shadows, day and night, and the seasonal appearance of some stars in the night sky.
5-ESS2-1 Earth's Systems
Develop a model using an example to describe ways the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and/or atmosphere interact.
Earth's Systems
5-ESS2-2 Earth's Systems
Describe and graph the amounts and percentages of water and fresh water in various reservoirs to provide evidence about the distribution of water on Earth.

Life Sciences:

5-PS3-1.	Energy: 
Use models to describe that energy in animals’ food (used for body repair, growth, and motion and to maintain body warmth) was once energy from the sun.
5-LS1-1 From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes
Support an argument that plants get the materials they need for growth chiefly from air and water.
5-LS2-1 Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics
Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment.

Engineering Design
3-5-ETS1-1 Engineering Design
Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or a want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.
3-5-ETS1-2 Engineering Design
Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
3-5-ETS1-3 Engineering Design
Plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.

I have 37 years of experience as an educator and have taught science and S.T.E.A.M. to children of all ages as well as adults. The S.T.E.A.M. Challenges included in this course are lessons that I have written with my fellow authors for our books: STEAM Design Challenges for Grade 5.

Detalles: Students will be given Quizlets, Kahoots, experiments with lab sheets or design challenges as Homework Challenges. The projects will be given as an individual design because this is an ongoing course, however, students are encouraged to work as teams to try the challenges.

Detalles: The teacher will support the students through the classroom platform and will comment on student designs that are submitted as images and videos to the platform. Students are encouraged to give suggestions or make positive and helpful comments to other students' designs.
