1-2 horas por semana. The homework varies and is optional, however, if a parent is requesting a grade for their student, then the homework will be a weighted part of the grade.Evaluación
I offer a grade for the tests, if parents want/need grades or evaluations for homeschooling needs, they need to direct message me early enough to provide me the time to get it done as I have several students. I evaluate by taking test scores, participation in class, attendance and doing the follow up activities into account.Letra de calificación
The teacher will periodically check on student understanding of the topics at hand. The class will be interactive as students will be encouraged to participate through chat or discussion. An optional benchmark test will be offered for students to take at the end of both semesters. I do provide follow up activities and post the answers the following week so parents can opt to have their students do the assignments for not.Experiencia de clase

This is a semester long course that students can log in for the weeks that interest them. I teach with a Canva presentation that I refer to and stop periodically to check for student understanding. We periodically use the whiteboard and chat box. I will cover all of the National Science Standards that are required for grade 5 science and we will do hands on activities, experiments and inquires. Because there are several homeschoolers taking these classes, I post many follow up activities so that the science concept can be reinforced throughout the week. Here is the semester schedule: Fall 2024 Week 1: Introduction to the Scientific Method & Notebook Set Up. Week of September 4- 10 Weeks 2, 3 4 & 5: The Properties of Matter Week 2: Matter is part of particles that are too small to be seen Week of September 11-17 This week will focus on atoms and the particles that make them up. Week 3: The Law of Conservation of Matter Week of September 18-24 This week will focus on understanding that matter can change, but never is lost. Week 4: Understanding the properties of matter Week of September 25- October 1 This week will focus on understanding how matter can be chemically changed and can create new matter. Week 5: Understanding the properties of matter Week of October 2- 8 This week will focus on experiments with matter Weeks 6 & 7: Force and Motion Week 6: Understanding the laws of gravity Week of October 9- 15 This week will focus on Newton and his three laws of motion and his law of gravity. Week 7: Understanding the laws of gravity Week of October 13- 19 This week will focus on experiments with gravity Weeks 8, 9 & 10: Energy Week 8: Energy production in plants Week of October 20-26 This week will focus on understanding the flow of energy from the sun to plants. Week 9: Energy production in animals Week of October 27- November 2 This week will focus on understanding the flow of energy from plants to animals and then to other animals and humans. Week 10: Energy production in plants and animals Week of November 3-9 This week will focus on experiments with energy production in plants and animals Weeks 11 & 12: Molecules to Organisms Week 11: Energy flow from air and water to organisms and through other organisms Week of November 10-16 This week will focus on how air and water help organisms grow. Week 12: Energy flow experiments Week of November 17-23 Week 13 & 14: Ecosystems Week 13: Interdependent Relationships Week of November 24-27 This week will focus on the food webs. Week 14: Cycles of Matters and Energy Transfers in Systems Week of November 30-December 4 This week will focus on how organisms cycle air, water, and soil and expel wastes into the environment. Weeks 15 & 16: Engineering Design Problems Week 15: Creating Rube Goldberg Designs Week of December 5-11 The Engineering Design Process will be taught through designing and building a machine. Week 16: Moon Munchies! A STEAM Design Challenge to create a solar oven. Week of December 12- 17 The Engineering Design Process will be taught through designing and building a solar oven.
