Welcome to 5th grade science! 5th grade science is broken into four quarters. This curriculum is packed full of fun facts, hands-on activities, and interactive learning. I believe that to understand a concept students, and grown-ups, need to jump in and experience it! Class will start with a brief presentation, game, or video. We will learn a little about the topic of the week and then dive into our activity. After class there will be a post-activity that is optional. This may include another hands-on experiment/activity, worksheet, or videos. I encourage students to share stories or show artifacts that have to do with the topic. This is optional, but always a fun way for students to be interactive! I encourage classroom conversation as I am always trying to post questions, reminders, and conversation starters. I love checking in during the week, espeically if we have an on-going experiment that we are observing! **Students do not need to take these quarter courses in order** **Please note quarter 3 covers whole body systems while this quarter briefly introduces organs, cells, tissues, etc.** Topics for this quarter: Week one- Insects vs. Humans Week two- Other animals vs. Humans Week three- Body organs class #1 - Covering the brain, heart, and lungs Week four- Body organs class #2 - Covering the stomach, instestines, and kidneys Week five- Body organs class #3 - Covering the skin Week six- Cells class #1 Week seven- Cells class #2 Week eight- Body tissues Week nine- Essential elements found in the body- Carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and calcium Week ten- How it all works together and introduction to quarter 3 Please let me know if you have any questions!

Lists will be posted in the classroom prior to class each week. pencil worksheet provided device to research with 2 hard boiled eggs (you'll want to have an adult's help to boil 2 eggs in water for about 15-20 minutes, drain, cool, and bring those to class) 2 clear cups dark food coloring (blue, red, or we can mix blue and red to make a dark purple) water two long straws tape two plastic sandwich baggies scissors a quart size jar (larger jar) vegetable oil Alkaseltzer tablets food coloring Jello (you can premake this ahead of time or use the kind that is in the little cups) mini marshmallows Fruit roll ups (or something similiar that is flat) Licorice (the kind that will work best will be the kind that you can pull apart into long strings) toothpicks plate crayons, markers, colored pencils cardstock or cardboard glue medium size styrofoam ball knife permanent markers rubber band beads (two colors) playdough pipe cleaners paint + paintbrush 3 cups vingear chicken bones (leftover from a meal) egg shell

Hi! My name is Kristi and I am so happy you ventured over to my science learning lab!
My goal is for students to have fun, maybe get messy, and gain a love for science! My teaching style is interactive and hands-on as I try to bring science to life. My classes work well for the kinesthetic learner.
You will find that most of my classes have a hands-on component to complement the learning experience and my presentations are very visual.
I do my very best to keep prices lower than average as I understand how quickly classes add up for parents. Keeping the prices lower also helps parents as there are material lists for experiments and activities. However, almost every class that I have has a coupon! Please reach out if you need assistance.
When I am not teaching I love to spend time with my daughter outside, gardening, raising chicks, and learning new skills. My goal is to combine some of my hobbies while teaching.
I have been teaching environmental science to students in pre-k through 12th grade for over 12 years. I have taught in various settings including outdoors, in classrooms, and online. I currently run my own business developing and delivering science lessons and custom curriculums to students in school settings, early learning centers, scouts, libraries, and more! I received my B.A.s in Environmental Science and Sociology in 2016 and my M.S. in Resilient and Sustainable Communities in 2019.Reseñas
