"Eww, David!" Has any 2-word line from a TV show been more quotable and useful? Schitt's Creek tells the story of the disgraced Rose family's arrival in the fictional town of Schitt's Creek, where they have to re-invent their lives and become better people. It's also an inherently feminist show, with messages of inclusion, personal growth, and LGBTQ+ affirmation. In this 1-time class, we spend 50 minutes discussing three key things about the show: the characters, the creators, and the impact on TV. This class is fun and fast-paced. Students are encouraged to participate, either with their cameras on or off, and they are given the chance to share their thoughts about the show. We not only find things to celebrate, but we are willing to critique the show when that is needed! This is a discussion-based class that does not use video clips. Importantly, it is taught from an intersectional feminist perspective. That means that in this class, we affirm that Black Lives Matter, trans women are women, trans men are men, non-binary identity is valid, and neurodiversity is vita.

Please note that because of the name of the show, the class does use euphemisms for profanity, and students will be able to quote the show. Conversational profanity will be discouraged, as we follow Outschool's expectations and guidelines for student behavior. The content of the class will never exceed the content of the show, but we may discuss topics like sexuality and drug use.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have been an English professor for 10+ years, which involves teaching through a feminist lens. My terminal degree, an MFA in Creative Nonfiction, focused on feminist narratives. In addition, my undergraduate degree in English with a minor in History prepared me for a career as a feminist educator. At the collegiate level, I teach education majors how to address diversity issues in their classroom in a class called Teaching Diversity Through Young Adult Literature. My essays on feminism and pop culture have been published by Jezebel, Everyday Feminism, Role Reboot, and Salon. I have also been teaching feminism courses on Outschool since early 2020.
