Throughout history, spies have played important roles in gathering intelligence and infiltrating operations. The American Civil War was no exception. This class will look at several women who engaged in various activities to provide military information to the opposing side during the war. Both Union and Confederate spies will be discussed including Harriet Tubman, Belle Boyd, Rose O'Neal Greenhow and Pauline Cushman. This class will use Google slides, discussion, pictures and primary sources to understand the lives of these ladies and the methods they used as spies. Learners will have the opportunity to understand how women played a role during the American Civil War as well as ways intelligence was covertly transferred across enemy lines.
