This Christmas Camp Course will meet for three days in a row, and jingle our way through some holiday writing projects.
When we're done, you'll have some Santa letters and holiday Haiku poems to enjoy and share with your family and friends. They also can make festive holiday decorations that can be framed and celebrated from year to year. Bake some cookies, pour a cup of hot chocolate, and let's write some Christmas memories!

DAY #1: "Dear Santa, I Can Explain...(Writing a Christmas Letter to Santa)"
Let's pretend that you are a famous villain trying to get back into Santa's good graces in time for Christmas morning!

We'll look at a great big list of well-known bad guys, and you'll choose the one you want to be (or create your own). You'll write a letter to St. Nick explaining all the naughty things you've done, how unbelievably sad you are for having been so naughty, and then you'll share your Christmas list with him. Hopefully, your warm sincerity will shine through and melt the big guy's heart!

When you're done, you'll have a jolly letter that you can send to Santa or hang on your wall, and add to your Christmas decorations!

DAY #2: "Ho, Ho, Haiku"
The Christmas season is a great time to let all your creative energy flow! Whether you've been writing Haiku poems for a long time, or you're ready to learn about them, this class will give every writer an opportunity to express his or her love of Christmas through one of my favorite poetic forms. We'll talk about traditional and non-traditional Haiku, and we'll find some jolly inspiration in reading some written by various authors. There are bound to be some laughs as we see some of our hilarious picture prompts, too! We'll share and discuss our writing as we proceed through our session. Please join me, and bring your holiday spirit!

DAY #3: "Dear Villain, I Can Forgive You..."
Hopefully, you'll never find yourself on Santa's naughty list, but there's a great big, sad group of villains that seem to stay there. This year, you can help Santa write Naughty Notices alerting these bad guys that they are outside of his good graces. You will let them know what dastardly deeds they've done to have been placed on this pitiful list, and then you'll show them what they can do to be removed from it. Just think of all the bad guys your benevolent words can help to reform just in time for Christmas!

When you're done, you'll have a jolly letter that you can hang on your wall, and add to your Christmas decorations!

Metas de aprendizaje

DAY #1 (Dear Santa): Students will playfully learn how to state their causes (how apologetic their naughty characters are for the bad things they've done) and request that their gift lists be honored (by skillfully and graciously asking).

DAY #2 (Ho, Ho, Haiku): Students will learn how to write in Haiku form (specific numbers of lines and syllables), as they create poems that celebrate the Christmas season.

DAY #3 (Dear Villain): Students will learn how to state their causes and reasoning (informing villains that they have been placed on the Naughty List and for what reasons), as well as explaining a problem and offering appropriate solutions (now that the villain knows he or she is on the list, how to be removed)

I absolutely love to write and share the joy of writing, and I've taught writing for several years. I understand that itisn't everyone's cup of tea, so I am beyond happy to share some ways to bring your words to the surface. Oftentimes, it's just a matter of sorting out what's happening in your brain and getting it to come out in the right order. I'm here for you!
