This is a 10 Week Semester Series. Classes will meet ONCE every week through the course of the curriculum. Part 1 of this comprehensive fashion history class spans from the 1910s to 1950s trends. We dive into the nuances of each era, understanding the interplay between culture and fashion. Students learn illustrative skills and croqui template construction, starting with the post-war liberated styles of the 1910s and the art deco designs of 1920s, moving through Hollywood glamour in the '30s, wartime fashion in the '40s, and rock 'n' roll influences in the '50s. Students who have completed this Part 1 series are highly encouraged to continue to Part 2 where we will explore the trends for the rest of the 19th century to the present day. It can be adapted to suit the needs and interests of the students for individualized portfolio development. Schedule Week 1: Introduction to Fashion History • Introduction to the fashion history timeline and terminologies of respective decades. • Understanding the relationship between fashion and culture. • Refresher on illustration techniques and croqui template construction. Week 2: 1910s - The Post-War Movement • Study of WWI’s influence on post-war fashion. • Analyzing the legacy of Chanel on fashion and society. Week 3-4: 1920s - The Roaring Twenties • Study of flapper styles and Art Deco influences. • Analyzing the impact of the Jazz Age on fashion and society. • Evolution of "women's freedom" in contemporary dressing. Week 5-6: 1930s - The Golden Age of Hollywood • Exploration of glamorous and elegant looks, including ball gowns, high jewelry and wavy big hair. • Discussion of the influence of Hollywood and the Great Depression on fashion. • Study of the role of Hollywood movie stars and modern luxury and street fashion. Week 7-8: 1940s - World War II and Post-War Style • Study of wartime fashion and rationing during the 1940s. • Analysis of post-war fashion and the New Look introduced by Dior. • Evolution of Dior's New Look in contemporary fashion. Week 9-10: 1950s - Rock 'n' Roll and the Birth of Teen Culture • Examination of the iconic 1950s fashion, including poodle skirts and greaser styles. • Discussion of the impact of rock 'n' roll and youth culture on fashion. • Exploration of the revival of rock star fashion. _______________________________________ Please read below for frequently-asked questions on our policies: Mandatory Video Check-In Video check-in is mandatory for safety purposes per Outschool policy. Students are required to have their cameras on to allow the teacher to check in and verify each learner. After check-in, students have the option of either turning off their camera or leaving it on, whatever is their preference. Refunds & Missed Classes All of our classes are backed by Outschool’s standard policy. To receive a full refund, parents may withdraw or stop their subscription within 24 hours of payment OR 24 hours before class starts, whichever occurs earlier. No refunds are issued if a learner misses a live meeting. Recordings are made available in each classroom and can be watched at their convenience. Students are always welcome to reach out with any questions and share their work in the classroom. Class Recording Access Learners must JOIN A LIVE CLASS ONCE in order to lift Outschool's safety protocol and unlock access to video recordings of class meetings. Learners who have not attended a live class but need access to the recordings must contact verification@outschool.com to apply for a lifetime verification badge. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message in the classroom and exit after ten minutes of waiting per Outschool policy. Minimum Enrollment & Class Cancellation A minimum of two learners is required for every class to run. In the event that we have to cancel a class, parents will be notified within 24 hours of class. Learners will have the option of either transferring to a more populated section of the same class or receiving a full refund, whichever is preferred. Technical Difficulties In the event of class delay/ cancellations due to unforeseeable technical issues, all families will be notified and a make-up section will be posted, or a refund will be issued if a make-up class cannot be scheduled.

Teacher Angela is a versatile graphic artist who holds a BFA in graphic design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her expertise extends to various art forms, including still life, landscape, and figure drawing. She is also skilled in fashion, 3D clay design, animation, and photography. Teacher Angela is known for fostering an environment that encourages her students to think beyond conventional boundaries, recognizing the profound impact of creativity on learning and development.
Teacher Palm is a professional fashion and costume designer familiar with the complete product creation life cycle from initial concept to constructed design. She holds a degree in Fashion Design from The Parsons School of Design in New York. In addition to over 10 years of teaching art and fashion, she is also experienced in staging collections in numerous international Fashion Shows for luxury clients including Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg, Ann Taylor and Kenneth Cole. She gained valuable industry experience in the capacity of Creative Consultant for designers, theaters and art schools. Palm is also proficient in a wide range of fine arts such as watercolor, oil, pencil, pastel, etc. and approaches her teachings with a calm mind, optimism and positive affirmation.
