Welcome!
In this class we are going to be looking at the history of Canada with some exciting Canadians who helped shaped Canada and the world. We won't just be looking at them as boring, stuffy faces from the past! Through discussion we will explore what led them to become who they were, the struggles they faced and what they might have been feeling at different points on their journey. We will also be looking at why they may have been celebrated by some and disliked by others. These aren't just boring faces who were alive a long time ago. These are real people with families and fears. Students will put themselves in each person's shoes each week.

After class students will have the option to create journal entry based on what happened in each person's life from the historical figure's point of view. However, just as each historical figure is different, so is each student! These do not have to be boring journal entries. I encourage students to use their individual strengths to do something they can be proud of. Journal entries may consist of poetry, drawing, song writing, animation, writing, doodling, art through any medium, making a comic strip, making a lego scene and many more ideas I will present. I will be giving guided questions about each historical figure to prompt student's creativity in their journal. Students will also have the option to present their work in the next class or post it in the classroom.

1. This class has fully been developed under the advisory of a Manitoba, Canada Provincial middle years teacher specializing in social studies and history.
2. This class meets all social studies/history requirements for a Manitoba, Canada middle years class.
3. This class is a full curriculum and is ready to be taught in a Manitoba, Canada middle years class.
4. I have a double major from university. One of these majors is in conflict resolution with a heavy focus on truth and reconciliation of Canada's past, present and future towards indigenous people and other minority groups. This gives me a wide perspective of Canada's history and the need to give a well rounded perspective of how Canada came to be a country.
5. I am also part of a minority group which gives me lived experience and the need to represent a full perspective.
6. The history of Canada would not be complete without including all groups of people who have helped shape it to be what it is now. This is why I have included people from many sides of the story in this class.
7. Canada has a very different history than many other countries. There is always more work to be done. Canada is unique because each of us (especially children in schools) are heavily involved in working on truth and reconciliation. All of us have a part to play and I hope that this class can help with that.
8. Some conversations will be kept to an age appropriate level and because of time limitations questions may be referred back to the grown ups in the home. However, conversations will always be well rounded and discussed from everyone's point of view. If questions arise I will make sure to get students to consider both sides of the situation and what each group of people may have been feeling at this time. I live in Canada where these questions and issues arise frequently and I will use that knowledge as well as information found in the below link to help guide discussion.

I have a BA degree in Psychology and a BA degree in Conflict Resolution studies.
I have taught 1,346 online ESL classes with a 5 star for one of the largest ESL companies in the world. I have earned 42 ESL certificates through them including a TOEFL certificate. In addition to teaching on other ground breaking platforms, I have been teaching with Outschool since 2020 and have taught almost 4,000 students!
In also to homeschool my kids I have also recently taught Gym and Swim programs for pre-school and at a Montessori school
