Exploring the Universe will introduce students to the study of astronomy. What is beyond earth? What's the difference between a comet and asteroid? Who is Galileo? Curiosity is the catapult into the exploration of space.This class is designed to offer a semester worth of in-depth astronomy in a condensed period of time. Each lesson is presented in power-point style with interactive quizzes, question and answer time, educational videos, and games. *Each week a new topic is introduced * Students will receive information on how to implement hands-on experiments and activities that relate to our lesson. *Science vocabulary words will be introduced weekly * Every class will have directions with printable sheets for homework to be completed. *Online quiz games will be used to review content. *No previous background knowledge is needed, only a love for learning! A list of topics we will cover in class are.... week 1: Nicolas Copernicus, Earth's Movement,Tools for studying space week 2: Galileo Galilei, Stars Heavenly Bodies week 3: Asteroids,Comets, Meteors week 4: Our sun,Structure of the sun,Solar Eclipse week 5: Solar Energy,Our moon,Newton & the Apple week 6: Motion & Phases of the moon,Mercury,Venus week 7: Earth,Mars,Jupiter week 8: Saturn, Uranus,Neptune week 9: little Pluto, NASA,Space Exploration week 10: In class review with games & take home test w/answer key

The student will have a better comprehension of the universe and its elements.
Students will be able to distinguish the difference between an asteroid, meteoroid, and comet and name the planets in the solar system.
Students will show knowledge of the opportunities for space careers and the people who shaped space exploration.
