Explorando el cuerpo humano cuando algo va mal: procesos patológicos comunes.

In this class, we will discuss common disease processes at a developmentally appropriate level. Students need to have a basic knowledge of the human body prior to taking this class. I suggest that students have taken my 8 week human body class before taking this class. This course is perfect for students interested in the medical field. I am a Certified Child Life Specialist and have experience working in the hospital setting with children. Part of the role of a child life specialist is to help children understand medical procedures and tests by using developmentally appropriate language. I teach in an interactive manner and I love involving students in discussions by asking questions. I will teach the material using google slides presentations, discussion, short video clips, handouts and a weekly Kahoot review game. I love seeing students faces light up when they are excited about learning something new! Some topics in this class could be difficult for children to discuss so I encourage parents to read through the weekly topics in the syllabus below. Each week in class we will review and talk about a different disease or disorder of the human body.
Week 1 - common cold, influenza: why we get sick? 
Week 2 - asthma, cystic fibrosis: diseases of the lungs 
Week 3 - stroke, heart attack
Week 4 - congenital heart disease, muscular dystrophy
Week 5 - sickle cell anemia, epilepsy: what is a seizure? 
Week 6 - diabetes, type 1 and type 2: how does blood sugar work?
Week 7 - cancer: what is a tumor? what is leukemia?   
Week 8 - REVIEW - Kahoot game
