4+ horas por semana. Each week you will receive a design challenge. These design challenges are intended to put your skills to the test and express your work as you see fit. Design challenges will vary from student to student to complete, but typically take 1-5 hours depending on how elaborate a design is. Since this work is all done asynchronously, students may find it best to spread the work out throughout the week to help ensure better retention. It is highly recommended that students maintain a notebook during this class as a reference tool to be used throughout the course and beyond.Evaluación
Each week, in addition to the design challenge, students will review at least 2 other students' work using a model known as "Delta-Plus". The teacher will also grade students based on a rubric provided each week looking at the skills being assessed.Calificación

In this course, we will learn about a lot of the features you can use in Adobe Illustrator. Each week, students will be presented with a series of videos going over a specific tool or set of tools that work within Adobe Illustrator followed by a "Designer Challenge". Each design challenge will have the student explore the tools we have learned, up to this point. Students will then share their designs on the class Padlet board where classmates can participate in the industry standard critique process of "Delta-Plus". Learning objectives for each week can be found under learning goals. Each week, students will be given videos and activities to help them practice the tools needed for the "challenge" assignment. Students will then be asked to complete a project using all their own creative energy with set parameters. Each lesson also comes with its own rubric to help guide and direct their projects. While this course is asynchronous (not meeting at a regular time), students will have 2 platforms to interact with the instructor and fellow classmates (if any). The 1st platform will be the Outschool interface, this platform will be where students can ask questions and share successes as we go about in the class. The second platform is Padlet. On Padlet, students will complete 2 tasks each week. Task 1 will be a reflection, which can be completed on a Word Processing application (Docs, Word, Pages, Notes, etc.). Students will answer a series of questions related to the project to help them reflect on what they accomplished during the week's task. Task 2 will be a share and critique of others' work. Students will post their work on Padlet and classmates will provide constructive criticism (taught in Week 1) to help them grow and refine their artistic ability. At a minimum, students will receive feedback from the instructor and practice feedback on the instructor's work, but ideally, they will provide feedback to at least 2 students. This class is intended for beginning Illustrator students who are self-motivated. Asynchronous learning can be difficult for some learners. This course is the 1st in a series of courses intended to help students prepare and take the Adobe Certified Professional Exam for Adobe Illustrator. More information about that can be found on the Certiport and Adobe Websites.
Metas de aprendizaje
Week 1 – Being successful in this class
Before we can get into the industry materials, we need to learn some basics. This week will be focused on getting used to the interface and creating objects in the same way as a class. Some may find it difficult at first, but practice makes habit.
Week 2 – Pen Mastery
Vector-based creations require artists to be able to create lines with the fewest anchors possible. In this lesson, students will complete 3 tasks set by the teacher, then put their skills to the test by creating a custom name tag
Week 3 – Layering and Shape Creation
Now with the pen tool mastered, let's start to talk about layering. When we design, it's always best to break down the shape into parts and then build them back together. At the end of this lesson, you will submit a self-portrait of yourself.
Week 4 – Custom Shape Tools
You've got this now, so let's start building your company design. But an awesome designer needs shapes that are equally awesome. You will then submit your logo as this week's design challenge. Another great way to break into the field is by running your own t-shirt design. For your final challenge, you will create a t-shirt design as well as talk about some great ways to launch your business.
Week 5 – Positive and Negative Shaping
If you want to make money as a designer, you must get some practice. This week we will focus on the hierarchy of design and demonstrate its use in marketing by building an event poster.

This class allows for student individuality and expression in a collaborative environment. While all topics in this course are written in a way that is appropriate for the age group intended, not all families share similar beliefs and standards, and students could share imagery that parents may not feel is appropriate for their child. Mr. Stahl only limits expression as required by law. In those instances, expressions will be removed as soon as Mr. Stahl becomes aware of the situation. Parents are encouraged to reach out to Mr. Stahl with any concerns and then the next steps can be determined. The next steps can include moving the student to a different section or refunding a prorated amount as outlined by Outschool.
