These private classes will offer patriotic lessons exploring history through the lens of monuments, memorials, and historic buildings in Washington, DC. I will teach the students about the structures and delve into their historical significance. For example, students will discover the history of the United States Capitol Building including the original and revised designs, usage of the building - especially the two houses of Congress, parts of the building (dome, rotunda, crypt, visitors' center, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, former Supreme Courtroom, Statue of Freedom), and how it fits into the branches of government and the design of Washington, DC. The classes will be non-partisan and will include various points of view. Learners will view photos through PowerPoint slideshows as I use questioning techniques and discussion to encourage students to interact with me. They will have the opportunity to create step-by-step drawings (highly successful and enjoyable with my students!) related to the topic taught. These classes will be informative, engaging, and supportive in a joyful, non-partisan environment.

My excitement about American symbols began with my travels to Washington, DC. I loved stepping onto the exact spot where Martin Luther King Jr. stood for his iconic I Have a Dream speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Walking through the White House thrilled me as I imagined the historic individuals who had walked its halls. I have enthusiastically taught many learners about Washington, DC through classes, books, music, and plays. I'm so excited to share my knowledge and experience with Outschool students!
I am a teacher certified to teach elementary grades 1-6 and deaf/HH students pre-K-12.
