1 hora por semana. Students will be given a small assignment each week to practice what they have learned. Feedback will be provided the following week.Experiencia de clase
Understanding data is a superpower for the future. In this flex course, students will receive weekly detailed videos and examples (on average, around 1 hour of video per week) and practice fun and interesting data sets that go through various topics in Microsoft Excel, which can proceed at the learners own pace. Students can watch the videos, or follow along with the videos and the provided Excel sheets. The course will scaffold those topics to build an understanding of how to analyze data. Students will work on a small weekly homework task and submit it before the next class for feedback. We will start from scratch and cover topics from an overview of Excel, conditional formatting, formulas, and functions. Each week we will discuss new ways to look at data, learn additional functions, and explore the program. We will cover logical statements, tables, pivot tables, macros, formatting, math, formulas, forecasting, cell referencing, named cells, and many other topics. This is a great course for both beginners and those who have some background in Excel. In addition to weekly videos and feedback, students will be presented with summaries and links that review the topics we cover each week. Students can use either Mac or PC versions of Excel, and we will try to feature both in the course and show the differences between them.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn many aspects of Microsoft Excel, and find ways to quickly sort through large data sets. The goal of the course is not only to learn how to use the tools, but to understand the data, and what tools can be used to sort through it. We will cover a lot of topics in the course, with the goal that students will understand how to use Excel, and learn a lot of neat tips and tricks to make them data analysis ninjas.

Orientación para padres
Microsoft Excel is recommended for this course. It may be possible to complete most of the course using other software (such as Google Sheets) but in this course we will be working with Excel.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students will need Microsoft Excel to follow along. Office versions 2016, 2019, 365, and other newer versions should all work. Older versions of Excel (2013, 2010, 2003, 2007) may be lacking some features but many or most of the formulas should still work.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I teach Excel, PowerBI, Sheets, and many other spreadsheet programs to various levels of students. I find that exploring data can be fun and exciting, particularly when you find unknown or new connections or conclusions you were unaware of in the data.
