We will cover this class over 5 weeks [5 weeks in May and over 6 weeks starting in June], 1 time per week for 55 minutes each time. This will be an interactive ongoing class. We will cover the HISTORY, PEOPLE, PLACES, CULTURE, SOCIETY, AND THINGS ABOUT ETHIOPIA.

1] TEACHER / LEARNER INTRODUCTION 

2] TEACHING / INSTRUCTION: ACTIVATE PRIOR KNOWLEDGE and BUILD ON BACKGROUND

Ancient Ethiopia: The teacher will give a general overview of famous places, people/rulers, and things in Ethiopia [Axum / Zagwey, Solomonic, Abyssinia, Ethiopia - from pre-Solomonic dynasty to modern-day Ethiopia]. This will be done through screen sharing of presentation slides, and short videos.

3] ACTIVITY

a] ENGAGE LEARNERS
There will be an interactive discussion to identify and name a few significant places, famous people, and things that made the Ancient kingdom of Axum / Zagwey /  Abyssinia / Ethiopia /  an important part of history.  In addition, learners will learn about the location of the ancient kingdom of Axum which is in modern-day Ethiopia.  A map will be provided. Activities sheets will be uploaded and will include but not be limited to interactive discussion, drawing, coloring, word search, reviewing maps, trade routes, famous places, people, Q & A, puzzles, reading short sentences, examining historical photos, documents, learning and sharing from the interactive discussions and responding to or match answers/responses about people, places, things, culture and society of Ethiopia / Axum / Abyssinia. Learners can join anytime. There will be a new set of activities each week. Where and when applicable, activity sheets will be uploaded to the learner's back office to use and work on at their leisure.

b] APPLY LEARNING

Learners will apply essential literacy skills while demonstrating what they learned about this topic: they will learn about and identify artifacts/places from Ancient Ethiopian Civilizations to modern-day Ethiopia. They will learn about languages, people, food, and trading routes in the Horn of Africa. 


4] SCHEDULE

The class will take place over a 6week period / 1 time a week for 55 minutes each day as follows:

The ongoing class will run with a different activity and lesson on each meeting day. Learners can join anytime. Check the "subscribe" dates to sign up. Below are sample dates with the weekly course content [every 5 - 6 weeks, the same class starts over]. By the end of this course, learners will be well-versed in Ethiopia's significance and contributions to world history. One-on-one and different lessons can be scheduled to meet each learner's needs.

SCHEDULE

WEEK 1: Ethiopian Ancient Kingdoms and Dynasties.
WEEK 2: The story of the Queen of Sheba / The Solomonic Dynasty: The History of Ethiopia.
WEEK 3: The Ethiopian Church: artifacts / ancient writings/languages / Paintings / religious festivals.
WEEK 4: Modern-day Ethiopia's relationship with Africa and the Middle East.
WEEK 5: The People of modern-day Ethiopia / Culture and Society in modern-day Ethiopia.
WEEK 6: Culture and society in modern-day Ethiopia.


THE CLASS WILL START OVER EVERY 6 WEEKS WITH THE SAME TOPICS [or the teacher can design a preferred schedule to meet a learner or groups of learners' needs].  Learners can sign up for missed classes when the new session starts. Sometimes, there will be multiple sessions depending on the number of learners interested in enrolling for a class. Inquire about one-on-one sessions and longer in dept classes available.

CONCLUSION 
One-on-one/group private lessons are available in any format. JOIN ANY OR ALL CLASS SESSIONS AS THEY INTEREST YOU.

Only appropriate content relevant to the course topic will be screen shared via "YouTube" and "Google Slides. There will be discussion on slavery, slaves, imperialism, colonization, and wars but only used to discussed the content based on historical events relevant to the history of the civilization in the lesson plan. Learners will not need a separate account. Only the teacher will need to screen share using these Outschool approved tools when teaching. Leaners will not need a separate account or need to access or download any of the 3rd party info.

My name is Ms. Remi. I am a Yoruba-speaking teacher originally from the former "Great Oyo Empire" in the South Western part of what is now Nigeria in West Africa.  I have an MA in African Studies. I am a Social Studies Substitute Teacher in the NYC Public School system teaching students from 5th grade to Jnr. High School. I am also an adjunct instructor in African History / Civilizations, World History, and Cultural Diversity courses at the City University of New York [CUNY].  I have experience teaching children of all ages. I was a part-time group family daycare and an afterschool teacher assistant for over 20 years.
