Students have the choice of finishing their essay outside of class. The teacher will give some feedback and may choose to only focus on helping a student improve certain parts of an essay rather than the entire essay. For example feedback may be centered around asking a student to focus on providing clear examples as opposed to improving sentence transitions.

Essays will receive basic feedback about clarity and quality via Google Docs 1 week after the class. The teacher will give some feedback and may choose to only focus on helping a student improve certain parts of an essay rather than the entire essay. For example feedback may be centered around asking a student to focus on providing clear examples as opposed to improving sentence transitions.

Keep up your essay writing skills by practicing writing a new essay every few weeks in this ongoing essay writing class. This class is ideal for students who have taken one of Choreography by Rae's writing courses. Many of our writing students experience an improvement in their essay writing skills upon completion of class, but still need a second pair of eyes as they continue writing essays for other classes. This class is designed to provide that ongoing support. Students who have not taken one of our writing classes but have a strong understanding of essay structure are welcome to join.

*** This is not a substitute for a private lesson. Students are expected to have essay writing experience.***

What is practice group?
Each week students practice writing essays using the brainstorms and outlines to organize their work. The teacher will assign an essay format and topic that best matches the student's grade level. Student will work independently on their essays. Based on group needs the instructor may offer a short demonstration of how to use a brainstorm and outline for writing an essay. The instructor is will require new participants to share their brainstorm and outline before having them write their essay. One an essay is started the instructor provide basic feedback on essay structure/ requirements (example: asking students to clarify their thesis).

***Student who are not open to feedback or unwilling to make changes to their work will not benefit from this practice group.***

What to expect?
Some students may choose to spend their class time creating an outline, while others may be able to start their essay in class. Students are not expected to finish an entire essay in class, and the teacher will not be able to read the entire student essay. For new students completing 1 essay may take anywhere from 2-4 sessions depending on the essay format and the student's writing experience. We do not "assign homework" because it is not a class. The teacher may encourage a student to work on their essay outside of class.

***This is not an essay writing class. Students should have solid essay writing experience before joining this group. ***

Need to miss a class? New to ongoing classes?
- You are welcome to unsubscribe and return to an ongoing class at anytime (I understand this process isn't easy on Outschool).

- Last minute events come up. I am happy to provide a one time missed class courtesy discount for every 90 days. Meaning, I'll hold your spot and you don't have to stop your subscription. I'll just refund the payment (this is usually easiest for everyone).

- Once the one time missed class courtesy discount has been used, it would be another 90 days before I would apply that same discount to your account. If your child does miss a class before that 90 day period is up, then your payment goes towards "holding" your child's spot in class.

Thank you so much for being amazing and helping your child improve in their communication skills.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students who make drastic improvements in their essay writing often forget much of what they learned when they have fewer essays to write. This study group is designed to help students maintain their essay writing skills. For some students, the regular practice of creating an outline and writing a thesis will have just as big of an impact on their writing skills as their writing an entire essay.

Orientación para padres
***Students who have never written an essay or who have very little essay writing experience should take a private lesson or enroll in one of our group writing classes.*** Students who do not want feedback, do not want to do a an outline, or have very little essay writing experience are not a good fit for this course. Students should be able to work independently and have essay writing experience. Students have the option of working on their essays outside of class; however, the instructor may recommend that the student complete their essay before joining the next session. Depending on the student's experience and writing skill level one essay may take 2-4 sessions. If a parent would like for their child to complete more essays, then the parent is responsible for having their child work on the essay outside of class. This will allow the instructor an opportunity to provide feedback on the essay. Please keep in mind that it is unusual for a quality essay to be completed within 45 minutes. Spending 2-4 sessions on 1 essay is the equivalent of spending 90 minutes to 3 hours on one essay. Some essay topics may require research, but these sessions do not place an emphasis on citation pages.
