Curso de ESL Speaking and Listening: ¡Hablemos del verano!

 Week 1
Lesson 1
It's Summer!
We will discuss what makes summer special. Key phrases will include "I like to..." and "I don't like to ...". We will also practice asking each other the question, "do you like to....?". Vocabulary words we will cover in this lesson include: Fly Dig Swim Splash Play Ride
Lesson 2
Summer Toys
In this lesson, we will build on the previous lesson by using the vocabulary words from 'It's Summer!' to explore and describe the use of various summer toys. We will practice the phrases "I like to...", "I don't like to...", and "do you like to...?" again, but with the addition of new vocabulary words. Vocabulary words we will review in this lesson include: Fly Dig Swim Splash Play Ride New vocabulary words introduced in this lesson include: Kite Sand Ball Beach Water Pool Bike Scooter Boat

Lesson 3
My Summer Activities
In this lesson we will learn the phrases "I have....", "I haven't....", and "Have you...?". We will build on the previously learned vocabulary words to ask and answer questions about what we have and haven't done this summer. In place of new vocabulary words, we will be covering the proper use of grammar in the past-tense. We will also be reviewing all past vocabulary words and covering how to change them to past-tense form.
Lesson 4
Summer Adventure
We will continue to use the phrases "I have...", "I haven't....", and "have you...?" in this lesson. We will also cover some slightly more advanced vocabulary words including: Adventure Camp Hike Roast Picnic Travel

Lesson 5
Favorite Summer Activities
In this lesson we will practice the concept of favorites. We will practice discussing our favorite things such as foods, colors, animals, toys, etc. We will review all past vocabulary words and use them to ask and answer the question "what is your favorite thing to do in the summer?". Students will be encouraged to recall and form sentences using vocabulary from previous lessons.
Lesson 6
My Favorite Because....
Students will discuss their favorite summer activities in greater detail during this lesson. They will be guided to use the same question format that was used in the previous lesson, but expand their answers to include more detail, such as: "Going to the beach is my favorite summer activity because I like to play in the sand, fly a kite, and swim." This lesson will encompass review of all past vocabulary and is designed to encourage students to begin using what they have learned with guidance.

Lesson 7
I Hope To...
We will introduce the term 'hope to' in this lesson. Students will be taught the phrases "what do you hope to do this summer?", "I hope to....". We will use all past phrases during this lesson to follow the format: "Do you like to....?", "yes, I like to..../no, I don't like to...." "Have you....?", "yes, I have..../no, I haven't..." "What is your favorite summer activity?, "my favorite summer activity is...., because...." "What do you hope to do this summer?", "I hope to........."
Lesson 8
Summer Fun Conversation
This lesson will be a guided conversation that provides students with an opportunity to freely use everything they have learned in this course. Students will be encouraged to speak freely about their summers and ask each other questions. We will play a review game to wrap up the course and provide a final opportunity to use the skills they have learned.
  • Students will be able to tell the class what activities they have and haven't done this summer.
  • Students will build their vocabulary to discuss a variety of activities.
  • Students will be able to ask and answer questions about summer activities.
I have been teaching English as a Second Language for 12 years including in person, 1-on-1 and group settings in the U.S., and around the world in both in person and online settings. My most recent experience includes teaching for VIPKid since 2017. I have earned 3 TESOL certificates through The American TESOL Institute, as well as many supplemental certificates and professional training.

Detalles: Homework assignments will be given during classes. Students are not required to complete the homework, but it may benefit students to complete the assignments. Students may be asked follow up questions to the homework during class time.

Detalles: I will be using formative assessment throughout each class to determine each student's growth and needs. I will adjust instruction and activities based on student needs to ensure that each student is able to participate and grow their speaking and listening skills during this course. Assessment notes can be provided upon request.
Students should be able to greet others and introduce themselves. They should be able to name a few things they enjoy doing (playing, swimming, reading, etc.) and be familiar with the phrases "I like...", and "I don't like...".
