Learning a language, being fluent in a language requires speaking, correcting, listening, comprehending, and sometimes trying again. This cannot happen via grammar exercises in a textbook or while watching Youtube videos. Language learners need conversation. In this ongoing course, we will have a friendly and interactive discussion each week. First, I will introduce a topic and model how to speak about this subject. The topic is not shared in advance as speaking without preparing is essential for achieving fluency. Second, students will each have a turn to talk about the topic for 3 minutes. I will offer constructive feedback immediately on word choice, pronunciation, and grammar. Third, students will be asked to share something they learned, enjoyed, or were surprised by from a peer's three-minute share. I will offer constructive feedback immediately on comprehension and speaking. Finally, I will share an interesting or surprising fact such as there are 2,000 thunderstorms on Earth every minute; Abraham Lincoln lost five elections before becoming president of the US; and, I will ask each student to comment on the fun bit of trivia.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Doctorado en Inglés desde University of Central Florida
I teach English literature, conversation, and document design classes for native English speakers and English language learners. My teaching career began 20 years ago in a large high school and has since included 1:1 language coaching, university courses from composition to world literature, and technical writing. I am happiest when I am reading a good book, discussing poetry, or creating a color palette for a presentation or document. Sharing these interests with young learners and helping them develop the skills needed to succeed in English courses and to enjoy literature has been a wonderful new stage in my teaching career.
