 Week 1
Lesson 1
Horse Identification
Students will learn about horse identification through the development of breeds, colors, and markings. Teacher will provide coloring sheet hand-outs for students to follow along as we learn about identifying horses.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Let's Learn Anatomy
Students will learn about the external anatomy and skeleton of the horse. We will examine bones and the functions within the system of the horse and how they play a role in the horse's day to day life.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Aging, Tooth Anatomy and Dentistry
How old is he? Students will learn about aging of the horse, anatomy of the tooth and different dentistry protocols to keep a horse in the best shape.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Keeping a Healthy Horse
During this class, students will uncover deworming protocols, parasites, vaccinations and common diseases seen in the horse.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
What's For Dinner?
Students will learn about the digestive system of the horse, contents of a horse's diet and common digestive issues that may occur within the horse.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Blemish & Unsoundness Issues
What is a blemish? What is an unsoundness? Students will discover many different issues within the horse, practice identifying each and uncover the category it fits under.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Let's Get Jumping!
After students have learned what goes into keeping a healthy horse, now we will switch gears and learn about different events that can be done with the horse in the English setting. Students will learn some history as well as, competitions, equipment and the overall style of the English horse.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Who is Ready for a Cow Drive?
In this class, students will learn about the western horse and will dive into the development of the style, equipment and various events that are offered in the western discipline.
  • Students will have a deeper understanding of equine terminology, colors, breeds, diseases, anatomy, basic veterinary, disciplines of riding and equipment. Students will receive a great foundation as an aspiring equestrian and will be prepared to further themselves in the horse world!
As an educator, I have an extensive background in the equine industry. I received my Associate of Applied Science in Equine Training & Management and have pursued a career as a riding instructor, horse trainer, barn manager and horse judge. Throughout my college degree, I have taken many equine courses including health, nutrition, reproduction, business, anatomy, physiology, and horsemanship. Horses have been a large part of my life for over fifteen years in which I have competed in western performance and ranch horse versatility events. I am prepared to teach this course!
This class is designed for students who love to learn about the horse and can be beginner or more experienced as, we will walk take a walk through of the horse. 
The teacher will provide any hand-outs needed during class. Students should come to class ready to learn with a pencil/pen and colored pencils/pens. 
During class, we will use YouTube for various subjects to help students improve their understanding of different topics.
