Entra al Laboratorio de Ciencias: un campamento de ciencia y STEM

Are you ready to become a scientist? In this camp, you will explore exciting topics in Science through fun games, hands-on experiments, and STEM challenges! Campers will learn a lot and have their curiosities engaged. While each day has a set theme, there will be plenty of time for campers to explore the topics they are most interested in. We will approach all activities though a scientific inquiry lens, asking questions and posing investigations to try to find the answers. This camp is suitable both for those who have limited knowledge in these subject areas and wish to learn about them, and for those who have more knowledge and wish to explore further. I am an experienced elementary school teacher who has had plenty of experience educating children in Science.

Below is a more detailed breakdown of the camp themes for each day:

Day 1 - What's the matter with matter?
On the first day of camp, campers will explore different phases of matter and how they apply to the world around us. They will experiment with making raisins dance, mix up the best kind of slime, play with oobleck, and use their creativity to design a device that will make a cool drink and delicious smores. 

Day 2 - How does our nervous system work? 
On the second day of camp, campers will explore our nervous system and how it functions. They will trick their brains with optical illusions and create their own, explore reaction time, design a spinal cord, investigate the roles of taste and smell in enjoying food, and learn about the role of cerebrospinal fluid. 

Day 3 - How do animals survive in different environments?
On the third day of camp, campers will explore how animals adapt to survive in different environments. They will play camouflage games, explore the features of feathers, test out living without opposable thumbs, answer the question of why birds have different beaks and create their own creature. 

Day 4 - What is energy?
On the fourth day of camp, campers will explore different forms of energy. They will compete in a scavenger hunt, experiment with sound waves, design a roller coaster, make a catapult and create chemical energy in a bottle. 

Day 5 - What are Newton's laws? 
On the last day of camp, campers will explore Newton's three laws of motion. They will investigate to find out why seatbelts are important, compete in a classic egg drop challenge, experiment with moon craters, and play with marbles. At the end of camp, each camper will receive a certificate recognizing the individual strengths they brought to our camp science lab this week.
