Join us for a fun and focused skill-building class that targets a new reading or thinking strategy each day of the week! This class is designed to help learners grow as confident, thoughtful readers while having fun with engaging texts and activities. Here’s what we’ll focus on each day: 📘 Mondays – Main Idea, Theme & Summarizing Learners will practice identifying the main idea, discovering themes, and summarizing key details to build strong comprehension. 🔍 Tuesdays – Making Inferences We’ll work on reading between the lines and using clues from the text to understand what’s not directly stated. 🧠 Wednesdays – Story Plot, Character Development, Setting & Text Connections Learners will explore how stories are built—examining plot, how characters change, setting, and how to make meaningful text connections. 📚 Thursdays – Vocabulary Building We’ll explore new words in fun ways, using context clues, roots, prefixes, and more to grow a stronger vocabulary. 🗂️ Fridays – Text Structure, Arguments & Claims We’ll learn how texts are organized and how authors use evidence to support arguments and claims—perfect for nonfiction reading success! Each session is designed to support comprehension, critical thinking, and confidence. Join any day or come all week for maximum growth!

Hi families! My name is Rose Oxendine, and I’m a certified educator with a Master’s Degree in Education and over 7 years of teaching experience. I’ve taught reading comprehension, writing, and literacy skills in both traditional public school settings and virtual learning environments. I currently teach 4th grade in North Carolina, where I specialize in helping students master key reading standards aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS)—the same skills we’ll be focusing on in this class.
I also have extensive experience working with struggling readers and students in intervention programs. My approach is structured, encouraging, and focused on building confidence and skill mastery through targeted practice. I design my own curriculum to meet individual learner needs and bring creativity, structure, and warmth to every session.
In addition to teaching in the classroom, I’ve taught students online through tutoring platforms like Outschool, where I’ve helped learners grow in reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and critical thinking.
