Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 1 - 3
In this ongoing class, you will learn how to draw information from reading fun fiction and non-fiction texts. You'll learn how to find verbs, adverbs, nouns, noun phrases, adjectives, and adverbs. You'll learn how to write using different types of sentences, how to use the linking words 'and, but and or', and how to use 'when, if, that and because'. You'll learn when to use a full stop, commas, apostrophes, question marks and exclamation marks alongside a variety of other things you need to know to make your writing absolutely amazing!

*Please note, this is not a beginner English class. You must be able to read texts (by blending sounds in trickier words, if necessary) that are applicable for your age.

Week beginning July 4th 2022: we are learning about adverbs, those little words that tell us how a verb is acting, for example, if we take the sentence, 'The boy smiled' if we add an adverb it could read, 'The boy smiled cautiously' which changes the original meaning! We will then read a short story and write a short paragraph story of our own using sentences that include adverbs and to finish up, we will complete the worksheets I will provide.

Week beginning July 11th: we will be reading a fractured fairytale about Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood! We will then answer some questions and create our own illustrations and finish off by writing a short paragraph story about the Gingerbread Man and the Three Little Pigs.

Week beginning July 18th: we will be learning about how we make meaning from what we see and read by using inference. It's amazing how much we can tell about someone just by looking at them. We will read a short story and look at how the author has used this technique. Can we do the same thing when we write our own short paragraph story?

Week beginning: July 25th: we will be reading the story, 'The Bear Who Came To Breakfast'. After this, we will sequence the story using pictures, write some captions for the story, and write a thank you letter to the bear!

Week beginning August 1st: we will be doing further work on the story 'The Bear Who Came To Breakfast'. We will be creating our own newspaper report about a very special gardener!
Metas de aprendizaje
Each week we will briefly concentrate on learning a different aspect of how English sentences are constructed. For example, nouns, noun phrases, verbs, adjectives and adverbs and how we use them when we write. Come and learn how to recognise these when you read different texts! Over time, we will also look at why some sounds read differently in sentences (soft 'c'; hard 'c'; soft 'g'; silent 'k', 'g', and 'w'; words with 'tch'; 'wh' and 'ph' words; and words ending in 'le'; 'el'; 'al'; and 'il')? When do we add 'ing'; 'ed'; 'er'; 'est' and 'y' to words? How do we use capital letters, commas and apostrophes, questions marks and exclamation marks, as well as suffixes and prefixes? There's so much to learn and you'll learn it by watching, reading, writing and practicing using worksheets. Come and find out the answers to all these questions! We will be reading some amazing short stories and look at how they have been written, the language the author has used, and the pictures the story paints in our heads. We will start to look at personification and how the author has given life to inanimate objects!

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have more years of experience than I care to think about (!) in delivering English to children from primary age, right through to young adults. I have taught many young adults who failed to pass their English GCSE in school to gain the almost equivalent Functional Skills English qualification after they have left school.

This is a topic I am extremely passionate about - literacy skills are a vital necessity in life. If a person can read, they can learn. If they can read, they can write. If they know the rules for grammar and punctuation, they can write well!

Outside of Outschool, I also work as a proofreader for students at two local universities and as an editor for authors of both fiction and non-fiction books. I am also a published author.
