These classes will be taught through a colorful slide presentation full of pictures and age-appropriate graphics. In each class we will learn about a different species. In many classes, I will also discuss major concepts pertaining to all endangered species. We will learn about the basic information for the animal of the week (size, weight, what they eat, where they live/lived), as well as why they are endangered or threatened, why they are important in their ecosystem, and how we can protect them through conservation efforts. Learners are welcome to ask questions during class as well as during the Q&A session in the last few minutes. No previous knowledge is required. **The animal of the week is subject to change prior to the start of class** **You will not be charged the week there is not a class scheduled** Week of: 6/13 Golden-Cheeked Warbler 6/20 No classes 6/27 Tasmanian Devil 7/4 Radiated Tortoise 7/11 Black Flanked Wallaby 7/18 Great White Shark 7/25 Livingstone’s Flying Fox 8/1 Sea Otter 8/8 Komodo Dragon 8/15 Red Legged Fire Millipede 8/22 Sunflower Sea Star 8/29 European Mink 9/5 No class 9/12 Saiga Antelope 9/19 Snow Leopard

Orientación para padres
In this class we discuss the reason animals are endangered which is almost always the result of human habits and activities on the planet. This can evoke strong emotions for some children (it's ok... it does for me too).
Depending on the animal of the week we do occasionally discuss adaptations and evolution of animal species. All information in this class is science-based.
We regularly discuss the need for animals to be able to find each other in nature for breeding purposes. I do not go into any details about how animals breed. I do discuss that they need to find each other, the impacts on populations when they can't, and the various reasons that cause them to not find each other.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I've been around animals my entire life and have worked with them professionally 95% of my adult life. I was previously a Registered Veterinary Technician (Animal Nurse) for 10 years and I also have degrees in Zoo Keeping, Animal Training, and Wildlife Education from America's Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College. I've worked at Zoos, was the Lead Supervisor of a Zoo Day Camp for children and I also founded a non-profit organization that provided hands-on animal education programs. Teaching children and families about the animals and planet is truly my passion!
