Throughout my life, I've dedicated myself to imparting the invaluable lessons of diversity to individuals of all ages, extending beyond just children. Each day, I encourage a sense of compassion for diversity among children, an endeavor I've passionately pursued since June 2020 through my teaching on Outschool. My classes delve into crucial topics under the vast umbrella of diversity, exploring subjects such as women's rights, race, gender, ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQIA+, and much more. These discussions aim to foster understanding, empathy, and an appreciation for the rich tapestry of human experiences. On a personal note, my commitment to diversity is deeply rooted in my family life. My husband and I are proud parents to two children of color, whom we've joyfully raised since birth and who are now thriving at ages 15 and 16. Additionally, my nephew is both transgender and diabetic, further enriching our understanding and acceptance of diverse identities and experiences.

Detalles: Students will undertake various tasks to deepen their understanding of the show. This includes writing episode analyses to analyze character development and themes, crafting fan fiction stories for creative expression, and composing comparative essays connecting The Owl House with other animated series. Students may also develop interview-style questions for a fictional conversation with creator Dana Terrace to explore the creative process. Additional assignments may involve reflective essays on gender representation within the series, personal reflections on friendship and forgiveness themes, and presentations on storytelling techniques. These tasks aim to cultivate a comprehensive appreciation for the show and enhance students' analytical and creative skills.
All that's required for this class is the ability to watch The Owl House, an open mind, and a willingness to learn and embrace new perspectives.
While "The Owl House" is designed for an audience aged 7 and above, this class will delve into various nuanced aspects presented in the show. This includes exploring themes related to gender identity and representation, providing students with a more comprehensive understanding of the content beyond its surface appeal. This is the reason for the older age group.
Throughout our discussions, we'll center our focus on Disney's The Owl House, while occasionally exploring other TV shows and animated series. For some classes, I may have an article for the students to read before class. These will be available in the classroom a week before the class and a notification will go out to the parents.
