1-2 horas por semana. Students will be required to read approximately 40 pages between class sessions and respond to comprehension questions. A plot diagram will be completed during weeks three and four.

Students will be guided through discussions and encouraged to question and share their opinions and ideas about the characters and their situations. We will predict, infer, analyze, and make connections throughout the lessons.

Please do not read the book before the start of class.
Day #1 - introductory discussion, making predictions and inferences
*Homework: read chapters 1-10 (pages 1-34), comprehension questions worksheet

Day #2 - visualizing, discussing challenges, making text connections
* Homework: read chapters 11-20 (pages 35-75), comprehension questions worksheet

Day #3 - character analysis, challenges, cause and effect, character development 
*Homework: read chapters 21-30 (pages 76-121), comprehension questions worksheet

Day #4 - final discussions, the importance of resilience, plot diagram completion, text to self connections, book review summaries

I have taught this novel for a couple of years with much success. This literary analysis focuses on adolescent challenges. Through guided discussions, students are able to gain an understanding of some of the numerous types of difficulties that children, and young adults, face while growing up. As readers, we learn that hardships and challenges are a part of life. Our goal is to find ways to cope with these challenges.
