This class is intended to get your students learning science using hands on and edible activities. When class starts we will review their background knowledge to see their understanding of the subject. This lesson will explore the states of matter and how cooling changes matter by making ice cream in a bag. Students have the opportunity to develop scientific vocabulary in an authentic, real world experience. During this class we will be using food items such as sugar, vanilla extract, ice, half and half, and rock salt. Please Note: Half and Half is a dairy product. If you need a dairy free option, almond milk can work, but not if you have a nut allergy. Silk can also be used, but this contains soy. Students will need access to these items in order to complete the experiment. While younger students may need some support, any help parents provide, must be done offscreen.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello!
My name is Karmen. My students call me Miss K. I am a certified Educator for grades K-12, serving students in a General Education and Special Education setting. I graduated in 2008 with my Master's in Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. My specialty was working with struggling learners in all core subjects with an Endorsement in Reading. Over the course of my career, I have been presented with many opportunities. I continued my education and gained another Master's in Education for Educational Leadership. I am currently pursuing an Education Specialist Degree for School Psychology so that I may continue to support students of all ages.
I love to work with students and have had the opportunity (for the past 13 years) to work at schools located in 4 different states (Ohio, Wisconsin, Louisiana, and Texas) and 6 different cities (Toledo, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Austin). I love to travel, but I especially love learning what a new city has to offer. Due to teaching in multiple states, I have learned different state standards as well as common core standards.
I have taught grades K-8 as a Special Education Teacher in a resource room setting as well as an inclusion setting for Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science. I have helped students prepare for State Assessments NWEA (MAP) Assessments, ISEE, and SSAT. As I have grown in my career, I have become an administrator and have taught educators (both special education and general education) how to understand the standards and how to teach children so that their needs are met. While currently I am a District Special Education Coordinator, I still work with children of all ages. I tutor online Reading, Spelling, Grammar, and Math for students all over the United States as well as teach English to children in China.
I would love the opportunity to work with your child and watch them grow.
