Dynamic English Genres is an overview course, designed to provide middle-school-aged students the opportunity to explore and experience a variety of writing forms. These will include poetry, fiction, and non-fiction, with a focus on the interactive opportunity of both class participation and experiential learning (doing the form we will cover). Classes will take place synchronously and are structured once a week, providing time for students to read and write between class sessions. This also promotes student learning executive function skills such as pacing and planning. Each meeting will begin with a review of the work, open discussion and class participation regarding ideas, thoughts, and insights regarding the material. As an instructor with over 30 years of experience, I approach each class from the pedagogy of experiential, Aristotelian practice. This means there's a lot of questions, discussion, relating material to student life, and individual attention - not only during class time, but I will adjust the course to spend more or less time on material based on the students, their interests and experience. This means that I focus on covering the material in whichever way(s) resonate most with the students. I take teaching very seriously and believe that students learn best when they are engaged, heard, and provided the space and opportunity to grow their interests.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have over 30 years of teaching experience. While the majority of that has been in the theatre field, I have taught Middle School English and currently teach a 7th grade ELA course for homeschoolers. Moreover, I've taught Freshman English at the collegiate level and a variety of English-related courses (such as Dramatic Literature) over my tenure as a theatre professor. Finally, I have also worked in the private sector as an editor, publisher, and served as a content developer for creative forms such as screenwriting, playwriting, and song lyrics.
