In this ongoing class, meeting once a week, we explore descriptive language and how it can bring our writing to life. Learners should already have a basic understanding of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Each week, we’ll take a different focus. This could be looking at a season, a character type, a setting, etc. We'll look at some pictures to help build a vocabulary bank. Next, we’ll experiment with combining them, and expanding them into descriptive phrases. We’ll look at similes and metaphors that we can create and may introduce other writing techniques such as alliteration, synecdoche, personification, etc, as appropriate. We'll work on a few descriptions together before learners are challenged to write their own descriptions. For those who would like an extra challenge, time permitting, learners can begin to write a story (prompts can be given) and use descriptions that they've explored during class. Students are encouraged to share their work but aren't required to do so if they'd rather not. This class is designed to be joined at any time with no prior experience of previous sessions. Learners are free to ‘jump’ in and out of the various sessions or only join specific weeks if they like. Planned schedule for the next few weeks: WB 19th Feb: Freezing Weather WB 26th Feb: Villains WB 4th Mar: Storms WB 11th Mar: Aliens WB 18th Mar: Castles and Palaces WB 25th Mar: Mountains and Hills

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Writing is my passion and as well as majoring in English at university, along with Theatre Arts, I've almost 20 years of experience in teaching English in primary schools (4-11-year-olds). Over those years I have worked regularly with groups of children specifically on English writing skills.
I have a wide range of experience in editing and proofreading others’ work; both fiction and non-fiction.
