There will be no formal assessment; however, we will take the time to hold up our drawings and celebrate and encourage each other's progress with the techniques and drawings several times throughout the drawing process and again at the end of class.Experiencia de clase

In this one time mini art camp, we have fun experimenting with our charcoal supplies while while learning different techniques as we draw together. Our charcoal drawings will include a landscape, an animal and a still life. As we draw together, I'll be demonstrating and leading the students through the drawing lesson step-by-step even though they will have several options in each drawing to be able to create a unique piece of artwork and not just an exact copy of mine. No prior drawing or charcoal experience needed. We also enjoy chatting while we draw, and I'll encourage student participation. I often ask about experiences related to our drawing topic or even ask them to share their creative ideas for the optional parts of the drawing. We can all encourage and inspire each other as we draw! In fact, students will show us their drawings several times during and at the end of our class so we can celebrate and encourage each other's progress and success. Seeing their drawings throughout our process will also help me individualize the instruction or tips that will help each child the most, so I'll watch for those opportunities.

At least 4 or 5 Sheets of Drawing Paper or Newsprint Paper (A sketchbook works great but could also be just separate sheets of paper instead) 1 or 2 sticks of SOFT, ROUND, VINE CHARCOAL ... Students may also want to have some WILLOW charcoal sticks for comparison ***(Charcoal Pencils or regular pencils will not work for these lessons) 1 KNEADED Eraser (a Kneaded eraser is made for charcoal - regular pencil erasers will not work for these lessons) Optional Supply: 1 White Paper Tortillion or Paper Stump (not necessary but some find it helpful)

Hi, I'm Susan Garrison, a professional artist who also loves teaching kids! I've been drawing & painting all my life and teaching children for the past 3 decades. After earning my BS Degree in Art Education K-12 from Middle Tennessee State University, I've enjoyed teaching children 2D & 3D art lessons at my own art studio, online, and in public and private schools in grades K-12 in Tennessee and South Carolina. One of my specialties has been curriculum development at each of those schools. On weekends, my husband and I even work as a team to DJ weddings and receptions.
I love breaking art projects down into bite-size pieces of simple lines & shapes for children as I lead them through the lesson step-by-step, while still encouraging options along the way so that every piece is unique. Choosing a variety of my classes will help your child develop skills and techniques for creating realistic pieces as well as tap into & build upon the beauty of his or her imagination & creative mind. My class offerings include a variety of styles & use many types of art tools & surfaces. Some classes focus on famous artists & their styles to inspire our artwork. Blending those experiences help form a well-rounded young artist.
