This ongoing class will meet once per week to learn to draw a variety of things in an adorable style. Anything can be cute! This class teaches basic drawing techniques but is mainly intended to be a fun and lighthearted class with opportunity to make friends and chat while working on our art. 

This class is great for anyone of any artistic ability, so get your art supplies and let's get drawing!

Hello! My name is Mekayla Dionne. I am a Toronto, Canada based Artist and Art Teacher! I teach drawing and painting classes for children aged 5-16. I teach a variety of mediums such as acrylic, watercolour, tempera, graphite, and more! I love to help students build their confidence in their art as well as in themselves.

I went to OCAD University and received a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), majoring in Drawing & Painting. I now have my own professional art practice and I frequently show my paintings in galleries. 

My artistic passion is in creating large scale abstract paintings using dozens of layers to achieve a highly tactile surface, as well as create optical illusions. However, my foundation is in realism drawing. I spent years building the skill of drawing things as realistically as possible, including drawing flowing hair, water, and rocks, using shading techniques. 

When I teach, my primary goal is to make sure everyone is having fun. Art can be frustrating at times, and a lot of practice goes into learning just one skill. I know how important it is to make it a fun experience for children so that they don't feel discouraged. After all, the best thing you can do is practice, practice, practice! 

When I am not teaching or creating my own art, I love to swim at the beach, go on bike rides, and tend to my plants. I am super friendly so don't be afraid to say "hi!",  and I can't wait to meet all of you!
