In this Dragons and the Elements of Art class, students will learn the fundamental elements of art and how to use them. Students will explore the seven elements of art by drawing and painting dragons. Each week, students will focus on different elements of art to create different types of dragons, (e.g., line, shape, form, space, color, texture, and value). Please note that students can enroll in this class at any time. Each scheduled meeting will be spent drawing/painting ONE picture, learning how to use different elements of art every week and are encouraged to make their own unique dragon design choices. Students do not need to be enrolled in previous weeks of this class to be successful. For every class, I will demonstrate each step for students and have students complete that step along with me. My classroom is a calm, fun, and creative environment where discussion between teacher and students is encouraged. I ask students questions throughout the lesson to check for student understanding and increase engagement. Students may interact with each other if they want to share what they learn during class.

Lista de útiles escolares
***IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ*** I will use Canson's cold press watercolor paper, 140 lb/300 g, but students can use what paper they have. Cold press paper has more texture, whereas hot press paper is more smooth. Students are welcome to use either type. If you are unable to purchase watercolor paper, students can use thick sketch or mix media paper. As far as watercolor paint, there are a lot of different brands to choose from. Unless you want to, you do not need to purchase anything expensive. If you have a cheap set lying around the house, students are welcome to use them! I will use a mixture of watercolor brands, some being cheaper than others. If you want to invest in a higher quality watercolor paint, Windsor & Newton is a good option. There are also a variety of paint brushes students can use. Students DO NOT need the exact brushes I will use. If possible, I recommend students having a smaller fan brush, detail brush or very small round brush, and/or shader brush. I use the shader brushes mostly in sizes 10, 8, and 6. There are brush sets with a variety of brushes you can purchase at a reasonable price. Again, please do not feel like you have to purchase a lot of brushes for this class. Even if your student has a single brush, we will make it work. Students may use masking tape or washi tape for the boarders of their paintings. This makes for crisp edges, as well as helping the paper to not warp as bad. I will be using washi tape I found on Amazon. Tape that isn't super sticky is best so there is less chance of it tearing the paper. Also, if students do not have alcohol markers, that is fine! They are welcome to use any colored pencils they have or another art medium of their choosing. In class, I will use the Prismacolor Colored Pencils and the Ohuhu alcohol markers. If you have any questions, or need help, don't hesitate to reach out! :) Color Master Dragon: Colored Pencil/Alcohol Markers -Paper -Everyday pencil and eraser -Colored Pencils/Alcohol Markers: red, yellow, blue, black -Blending tool (blending stumps, Q-tip, tissue, etc.) OPTIONAL: white gel pen Sunset Dragon Tribe: Watercolor Paint -Watercolor paper -Everyday pencil and eraser -Watercolor paint: blue, green, brown, yellow, orange -Paint brushes -Paint palette to mix paint on -Paper towels -Jar of water (to rinse brushes) OPTIONAL: white acyrlic paint OR white gouache paint OR a white gel pen, colored pencils, washi tape Winged Acrobat Dragon: Colored Pencil/Alcohol Markers -Paper -Everyday pencil and eraser -Colored Pencils/Alcohol Markers: purple, yellow, brown, white OPTIONAL: white gel pen Mystical Mushroom Dragon: Watercolor Paint -Watercolor paper -Everyday pencil and eraser -Watercolor paint: blue, green, brown, yellow, red -Paint brushes -Paint palette to mix paint on -Paper towels -Jar of water (to rinse brushes) OPTIONAL: white acyrlic paint OR white gouache paint OR a white gel pen, colored pencils, washi tape Fire Queen Dragon: Colored Pencil/Alcohol Markers -Paper -Everyday pencil and eraser -Colored Pencils/Alcohol Markers: red, orange, yellow, brown, black, white OPTIONAL: white/gold gel pen Volcanic Rock Dragon: Watercolor Paint -Watercolor paper -Everyday pencil and eraser -Watercolor paint: purple, orange, yellow, red, brown, black -Paint brushes -Paint palette to mix paint on -Paper towels -Jar of water (to rinse brushes) OPTIONAL: white acyrlic paint OR white gouache paint OR a white gel pen, colored pencils, washi tape

Welcome to my teacher page! My name is Torri McCarrey, and I am very passionate about teaching visual arts and core curriculum. My core curriculum courses often use an art integration approach to learning (e.g., drawing your own monster using adjectives). I also teach realistic animal drawing, landscape painting, holiday themed art, and more! I am a certified teacher with two Bachelor of Science Degrees in teaching, Elementary Education (kindergarten through sixth grade) and Early Childhood Education (pre-kindergarten through third grade). I have also drawn realistic and quirky animal portraits for nearly ten years. My values and philosophy of teaching include providing students with a calm and creative learning environment that provides the opportunity for hands-on learning experiences through art integration. I am also an avid animal lover, gardener, and aspiring illustrator and author, (I am currently working towards publishing my first children’s picture book). If you would like to email me, I try to respond within twenty-four hours, Monday through Friday. Thank you for your time and I look forward to working with you!
