Tarea
1-2 horas por semana. Students will receive practice kahoot and breakoutedu.com games to review. Lab completion is independent, which serves as homework for this class. Extra resources may be provided upon request as labs can be time consuming for completion.
Evaluación
Student completion of labs will serve as assessment. For documentation purposes, feedback will be provided on submitted lab reports. Weekly quizzes will be provided for completion after each week's topic for assessment.

Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 3 - 6
In this four week flex class, students will learn background information on various science labs to conduct at home and learn investigative practices using STEM to learn about various concepts to learn about viral science activities and why they do, or do not, work.

Each week, students will watch an instructional video with a lesson about the lab at hand, as well as a demonstration of lab experiments to try at home in the videos so students may also complete lab experiments. Students will be provided notes to gain content from this lesson to help in their investigative practices. Students will then be provided 3 science labs a week to complete on the subject of the week, along with a laboratory handout for the investigation to record data and results. Students will complete one or all three labs, at their discretion (completion of one lab is required). Students will share investigative outcomes in the classroom through discussion board posts, and also will submit lab investigations from the chosen lab to the teacher via student messages as an upload. Students will play review game from kahoot.com to review the lesson for content learned that goes with the lab for each week. Students will also receive a Google Forms quiz to complete for assessment of topic mastery.

Week 1- Solubility- Students will learn about solubility and how items dissolve in water.
Labs for the week:
Lab 1: Expo marker and water- students will test solubility by using expo markers and water to see their art project come to life!
Lab 2: Magical disappearing cotton candy- students will see how cotton candy disappears quickly simply by adding water.
Lab 3: Sand, salt, or sugar? Students will experiment with various different solutes to determine which substances will, or will not, dissolve in water.

Week 2- Soap vs. Water- students will learn about soap and why it is not easily broken down in water.
Lab 1- Climbing bubbles- students will use a slinky and a straw to see if they can make their bubble climb against gravity.
Lab 2- Clean fingers- using pepper, water, and soap, students will learn about soaps molecular behavior and compare to hand sanitizer
Lab 3- Color explosion! Using milk, food coloring, and soap, students will see how soap interacts with liquids other than water

Week 3- Soda!-Students will learn about what soda is made of, and the different chemical reactions that can occur inside of soda.
Lab 1- Changing Glue's Consistency- using glue and soda, students will see if they can change the consistency of soda
Lab 2- Dissolving an eggshell- students will test if an egg shell really will dissolve in soda
Lab 3- Infamous mentos experiment- no soda experiment is complete without the infamous Mentos test! Students will test the reaction of soda with mentos to see the chemical reaction

Week 4- Water adhesion and cohesion- students will learn why water bonds together from hydrogen bonds to move from one location to another or connects to other objects
Lab 1- Rainbow- students will use water, food coloring, and paper towels to create a rainbow and watch water's adhesion in effect to move from one location to another.
Lab 2- String pouring- students will use yarn and pour water from one location to another, and try different strings to see if one is better than another.
Lab 3- Upside down glass- using water and a paper towel, students will test to see if they can turn a glass upside down and not spill water through water's properties
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn about the properties of soap, water, soda, and solubility through engaging lessons and scientific investigations.

Orientación para padres
Students will be working with a variety of different substances to create chemical reactions. Parental supervision is suggested. Students will receive supplemental videos that support learning on occasion from YouTube (streamable in the Outschool Classroom), and digital activities (Kahoot, Google Forms).Creation of accounts is not needed to complete activities.
Lista de útiles escolares
Each week students will receive a printable (or editable through word) document for their laboratory experiment.

In addition, these supplies are recommended for each week (please note this list is comprehensive of student completing all 3 labs- if you only intend to do one of the labs, read the description above to determine which materials you need for which labs)

Week 1 supplies:
expo markers, sand, salt, sugar, water, and containers to conduct investigatoins

Week 2 supplies:
soap, water, pepper, food coloring, milk, hand sanitizer, slinky, and containers to conduct investigations

Week 3 supplies:
soda, egg, mentos, school glue and containers to conduct investigations

Week 4 supplies:
