In this unique ongoing class, young historians will travel back in time to connect their favorite animated movies to world history, anthropology/culture, geography, and mythology. Learner questions will help guide future classes and discussions as we cover curiosities including standing stones, will-o-the-wisp, and lost cities. We will explore crumbling castles, ancient civilizations, and natural wonders. Learners will gain an understanding of the historical and cultural elements behind each story through photos, videos, virtual field trips, read-alouds and interactive content. Often, Disney takes artistic license with its portrayal of history and culture. We will be analyzing the true history of the time periods and people and comparing it to Disney's versions. Below, you will find a list of movies that may be included. Movies featured will be primarily Disney, with some Pixar, Dreamworks, and others sprinkled in. I believe in gearing classes toward student interest and will be developing each week's classes based on student questions and requests. Because this class focuses on the history behind a different movie each week, learners are welcome to join us in this ongoing class at any time. Each class stands on it's own and no prior knowledge is needed. Movies: *It is NOT necessary to have seen the movie prior to class to be able to participate. Some kids like to watch if first, others prefer to watch it after the class. Either way is fine!* There are 22 movies featured in this class. Each movie lesson highlights different times in history, unique cultures, and little known mythology. Learners can join at any time as the start and end point will be different for everyone. -Moana -The Emperor's New Groove -Mulan -How to Train Your Dragon -Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas -Beauty and The Beast -The Lion King -Hercules -Ferdinand -The Little Mermaid -The Good Dinosaur -Mr. Peabody and Sherman -Raya and the Last Dragon -Frozen -Snow White -Atlantis -Brave -Coco -Cinderella -Luca -The Sword and The Stone -This class runs continuously on a loop with a different movie featured each week. Orientación para padres
-Often, Disney takes artistic license with its portrayal of history and culture. We will be analyzing the true history of the time periods and people and comparing it against Disney's versions. I believe it is important for children to learn the true history behind the events and groups of people portrayed in the movies they watch. In all of my history and anthropology lessons, all cultures are always presented in an unbiased, non-stereotypical light, showcasing multiple viewpoints.
-Several Disney movies depict battles, wars, and other heavy topics. We will discuss the history of these battles and times in history in an age appropriate manner, while still staying true to history.
