Experiencia de clase

In this lesson, the young learners will learn the 5 layers of a tree trunk. We will use real pieces of trees to identify and label each layer. This is an introduction of forestry to younger children. We will start the class off by introducing ourselves by name and where we live. By using diagrams of the tree trunk, real pieces of wood, and an end of class drawing activity, each learner will be encouraged to recite the 5 layers of a tree trunk. From the outside in, the layers include bark, the cambium, sapwood, heartwood, and pith. Within these layers you can see the rings which indicate how much rain the tree received in each year. We'll talk about how the tree grows wider with more rain, and shows through the thickness of each ring. We will start class by introducing ourselves and where we live. Throughout the class we will practice listening to the different layers, reciting and building upon each layer, and create a fun craft at the end to show the five layers of a tree trunk. I really enjoy having more open discussions throughout lessons, so please encourage your learner to share what they know or want to know.

Lista de útiles escolares
I encourage each learner to bring something to color with such as: colored pencils, markers, or crayons. They may also bring a dry erase board if they would like instead of coloring on paper. If the learner is able to find a piece of wood before class, we can use it as show and tell to discuss and describe what we see.

Welcome! My name is Teacher Emily. I have been teaching for the last 10 years in many different environments. I have worked as an autistic support aid, merit badge counselor and resident camp director for the Boy Scouts of America, in addition to a young toddler and a preschool teacher. For 2 years I worked from home as an online ESL teacher for students who live in China. I am currently a Childcare Provider, Early Intervention Provider, in addition to managing and operating a school age summer camp and a respite summer camp.

I have my associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Pre-k thru 4th, my bachelor's degree in Geography, and intend on completing my master's program in Environmental Education within the next few years. I find it valuable for students to learn in an inclusive manner, that allows them to explore the environment around them while thinking outside of the box. In my courses, we will explore the topics of our earth including but not limited to: map making, map reading, natural sciences, cultural geography, physical geography, people and geography, and many more. Come learn with me!
