Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 5 - 6
Fifth/ Sixth grade is denoted by progress in reading and language arts. Through an intimate class experience, students will enjoy finding what they like to read and enjoy about English (again or anew).

This language arts course is designed to increase a student’s communications skills through reading, writing, speaking, and the study of the English language.

We meet one time per week, but students will have assignments posted in Google Classroom 2x per week.

Our primary focus in this language arts course will be centered on:

1. exploring different genres of writing through one novel, and related poetry, plays, and non-fiction
2. experimenting with different writing styles through a short stories, feature article, and poetry
3. demonstrating the rules of grammar and exposure to new vocabulary
4. expressing oneself orally and creatively through self-selected projects and presentations.

Because we are a community of learners, please also expect to work periodically in group situations and to present information in collaborative settings.

Please understand that independent reading is expected and is a component of our course, and all work will be graded, unless otherwise requested.

Book Title:
Winter: Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate

This course is academic in nature, but mindfully creative, and is best suited for focused students who not only love reading and writing, but want to expand their knowledge of diverse genres, complete fun vocabulary projects and learn through projects. This class will be highly collaborative, and discussion-oriented.

Cameras will need to be on at all times, unless there is a special circumstance.

The lessons will not be rigorous, but homework will be required, and parents will be contacted if assignments are missing.

Students are expected to work hard and diligently and to be punctual to class.

Challenges and opportunities for accelerated learning will be available upon request. The primary focus is to learn at a pace that will help students develop a LOVE for language, words, and reading.

By the end of students should be able to:

- Use grade appropriate vocabulary
- Apply comprehension strategies to a variety of literary genres
- Write and punctuate appropriately in research and composition assignments
- Speak and listen with grade appropriate skill

It will be stressed that the classroom is a safe place for expression, growth, and discovery.

Further class details such will be provided upon enrolling.
