Hello, Prehistoric Scientists! In this self-paced class, we will explore the fascinating lives of ten dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals all with sharp horns and spikes! Please note that this is a self-paced class which is an asynchronous class that students will work through on their own and at their own pace. There are no live Zoom meetings, but you will see me in pre-recorded videos in each lesson.

Each lesson will cover facts about one dinosaur or prehistoric mammal. For each animal, interactive class activities have been incorporated such as Pear Deck lessons, jigsaw puzzles, and other games and printable activities.

Following are the specific learning points we will cover in each class about each dinosaur or prehistoric mammal:

1. Learn to identify each animal by picture.
2. Learn what the scientific name of the animal means (e.g., Triceratops means "three-horned face").
3. Identify if the animal is a carnivore or herbivore.
4. Learn the length of each animal and compare it to the length of a similar-sized object that we know of today (e.g., Iguanodon was 33 feet long, almost as long as a semi-truck!).
5. Learn the weight of each animal and compare it to the weight of a similar-sized object that we know of today (e.g., Iguanodon weighed 7,000 pounds, almost as much as a hippo!).
6. Identify how long ago the animal lived (e.g., Iguanodon lived 157 million years ago).
7. Identify which continent the animal primarily lived on (e.g., Cetiosaurus lived in Europe).
8. Coloring page

This class is geared towards a younger age group, and will likely need the help of an adult to go through the activities on the computer.

Thank you for your interest in Dinosaur Discoveries: Horns and Spikes!

Orientación para padres
I have used Google Slides to create the foundation of the lesson content and have used Pear Deck to create the interactive element of the Google Slides. Jigsaw Planet is a website where I have created my own dinosaur puzzles. None of the above listed third-party tools (Google Slides, Pear Deck, Jigsaw Planet) require a subscription or a login for the student. They are free and easy to access with the links I provide in the class content.
Lista de útiles escolares
There are occasional printable activities that are optional for the student to complete. If the student chooses to work on the printable activities they will need a printer and computer paper, as well as possibly pencil, crayons or markers, etc.

Though my undergraduate degree major was computer science, I double-minored in mathematics and earth science. I chose earth science simply because I love it. The earth, environments, and climate is a passion I've held since I was a child. I have always loved and craved learning about animals that lived in prehistoric times and did not have a chance to survive into the modern world. This class is a way in which I can express and share my own personal studies as well as the love of dinosaurs and what their lives may have looked like.
