We will deepen our knowledge of what science really is and how we can find it around us. We will cover the fundamentals of science such as the science safety rules, the states of matter, how objects move, objects we find in the sky, living/nonliving things we see around us such as soil, rocks, and water, characteristics of living things, and much more! We will start the lessons with any celebrations we may have (positive notes) and/or what we learned from the previous lesson and end the...
16 lessons//8 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Working Like a ScientistThe students will be able to explain what a scientist is. The student will also understand the Science Safety rules.Lesson 2Investigating Properties of ObjectsThe students will be able to classify objects by observable properties such as larger and smaller, heavier and lighter, shape, color, and texture.Week 2Lesson 3Investigating Properties of Objects ContinuedThe students will be able to classify objects by observable properties such as larger and smaller, heavier and lighter, shape, color, and texture.Lesson 4Investigating EnergyThe students will be able to identify and discuss how different forms of energy such as light, thermal, and sound are important to everyday life.Week 3Lesson 5Investigating Energy ContinuedThe students will be able to identify and discuss how different forms of energy such as light, thermal, and sound are important to everyday life.Lesson 6Investigating How Objects MoveThe students will be able to demonstrate and record that ways objects can move such as zigzag, straight, up and down, etc. The student will also be able to predict and describe how a magnet can be used to push or pull an object.Week 4Lesson 7Investigating Rocks, Soil, and WaterThe students will be able to observe, compare, describe, and sort components of soil by size, texture, and color.Lesson 8Investigating Rocks, Soil, and Water ContinuedThe students will be able to observe, compare, describe, and sort components of soil by size, texture, and color.Week 5Lesson 9Investigating Objects in the SkyThe students will be able to record and observe changes in the appearance of objects in the sky such as the moon and stars, including the sun.Lesson 10Investigating Weather and SeasonsThe students will be able to record weather information, including relative temperature such as hot or cold, clear or cloudy, calm or windy, and rainy or icy.Week 6Lesson 11Investigating Weather and Seasons ContinuedThe students will be able to record weather information, including relative temperature such as hot or cold, clear or cloudy, calm or windy, and rainy or icy.Lesson 12Investigating Organisms and EnvironmentsThe students will be able to gather evidence of interdependence among living organisms such as energy transfer through food chains or animals using plants for shelter.Week 7Lesson 13Investigating Organisms and Environments ContinuedThe students will be able to gather evidence of interdependence among living organisms such as energy transfer through food chains or animals using plants for shelter.Lesson 14Investigating Physical Characteristics of OrganismsThe students will be able to investigate how the external characteristics of an animal are related to where it lives, how it moves, and what it eats.Week 8Lesson 15Investigating Physical Characteristics of Organisms ContinuedThe students will be able to investigate how the external characteristics of an animal are related to where it lives, how it moves, and what it eats.Lesson 16Investigating Life CyclesThe students will be able to observe and record life cycles of animals such as a chicken and a frog.
- The learning goal is for students to become aware of factors that affect their daily lives and to demonstrate scientific logic and reasoning.

YoyTube will be used to demonstrate a topic such as food chains and characteristics of organisms such as animals. An account may need to be created to be able to use the app.
We will use YouTube for lessons such as discussions about organisms (plants, animals), and animal characteristics.
