1 hora por semana. Continue to work on drawing and model-making.Experiencia de clase
For any young designer, learning the most basic skills of communicating ideas can open a world of possibilities. In this class we will learn the architectural means of communication - mostly drawing (drafting) and some model making. Students will learn how to visualize a building in terms of how to draw it in plan, elevation and section, which, working together, show a building in three dimensions. We will also start to make a cardboard model of the house that they design. During the first class, we will learn the different drawing types. I will show examples of plan, elevation and section drawings, explaining why we use certain conventions, and show how to read basic architects' drawings. I will give the students a "program" which is a list of spaces (rooms) that will need to go into their design. Then students will start designing a house of their own. Students will be asked to draw during class, and show their work, in order to get feedback. In the second week of class, students will finalize their floor plans and start to work on their elevations. In the third week of class, students will learn to draw a section, finalize their drawings and may start work on a cardboard model of their design.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
My background is in architecture and I have worked in the field for over 10 years, drawing construction documents and designing buildings. I use a computer to draw now, but I firmly believe that drawing by hand is critically important when learning about design and architecture. For kids, designing by hand, putting thought to paper by hand BEFORE (or alongside) utilizing the computer helps develop their spacial perception and critical thinking.
When I was a kid, I used to draw floor plans of my dream house. Looking back, I wish I had a class like this so I could further my designs!
