In this one-time live class, students will use LEGO to construct their dream homes and discover how math plays a critical role in real-world architecture. Through step-by-step guidance, students will sketch a simple floor plan, then bring it to life by building a 3D model of their home. Along the way, they'll apply math concepts like area, perimeter, and geometry to their designs. By the end of the class, your child will have a LEGO house to show off, along with a deeper understanding of how math and creativity combine in the world of design! Class Outline: 1. Introduction to Design and Architecture (5-10 minutes) o Quick icebreaker about dream homes and architecture. o Explain how architects use math to design buildings. o Students are introduced to how they’ll be combining math with their LEGO building. 2. Create a Simple Floor Plan (10-15 minutes) o Math Focus: Area, Perimeter, and Measurement. o Students sketch a basic blueprint of their dream house on graph paper (or use imagination if preferred). o They’ll measure room dimensions (e.g., 6 LEGO bricks long, 4 LEGO bricks wide) and calculate area and perimeter. o Example: "If one brick represents 1 foot, how big is your bedroom if it's 6 by 4 bricks?" 3. Building with LEGO (30 minutes) o Math Focus: Geometry, Shapes, Spatial Reasoning. o Students start building their house based on the floor plan they created. Encourage them to use their measurements to build the walls, windows, doors, and other features. o Discuss how shapes like rectangles, squares, and triangles are used in their designs. o Help students adjust proportions and scale as they build. o Ask guiding questions: "How many bricks will you need for the perimeter of your house?" 4. Optional: Material Estimation (5 minutes) o Math Focus: Multiplication and Budgeting. o Introduce a quick activity where students estimate how much flooring or wall materials they might need (e.g., “Each LEGO brick represents 1 square foot of tile—how many tiles do you need for the living room?”). 5. Showcase and Wrap-Up (10 minutes) o Students share their LEGO house creations and discuss what math they used in their designs. o Recap how math is essential for real-world architecture and design. o Encourage students to continue building and exploring architecture beyond the class.
Metas de aprendizaje
1. Design and build a 3D model of a dream house using LEGO.
2. Apply math concepts such as area, perimeter, and scaling in a creative project.

Necesidades de aprendizaje
Offer alternative ways to measure and calculate. For example, if a student struggles with drawing a floor plan, let them build their house without it and estimate the size based on the number of LEGO bricks used. This flexibility helps all.
Lista de útiles escolares
• LEGO Bricks (or other building materials like blocks). • Graph Paper (for sketching the floor plan). • Pencil and Ruler. • Calculator (optional, for area/perimeter calculations).
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
