Does your child struggle with longer words? In this one-time class, students in grades 4–7 will learn simple, science-backed strategies to break apart big words and decode them confidently. We will focus on two key skills: syllable division and recognizing common prefixes and suffixes. The class is structured for maximum interaction: - I will model how to spot word parts and split longer words. - Students will practice chunking words with support and encouragement. - We will play a fun "Word Attack Challenge" at the end to apply what we've learned. My teaching style is supportive, energetic, and highly structured. I use direct instruction, visual cues, and student participation to keep learners engaged. No prior experience with syllable marking or morphology is required, but students should be able to read simple one- and two-syllable words independently. This class is especially suited for students who benefit from clear, step-by-step reading instruction, including those with dyslexia, ADHD, or similar learning profiles. Learners will leave with practical tools they can apply immediately to their reading outside of class!
