Welcome to an enriching Monday-Friday 6th-grade reading and writing class where students will master all of the core skills from a typical 6th-grade Language Arts class. Students will also have activities designed to boost social emotional learning built into the curriculum.

✍ Create paragraphs and multiple-paragraph essays
✍ Practice both expository and persuasive writing

✍ Use persuasive techniques such as sticking to one opinion and addressing a counterclaim
✍ Master the tools to approach any writing assignment with confidence


Students will alternate throughout the week between reading and writing lessons. Students will read short stories, poetry, and interesting nonfiction articles. They will also learn step-by-step techniques for writing essays. 

Each week will focus on one theme which will consist of a fictional text, an informational text, and multiple writing prompts.

📚 Short stories like “Examination Day” by Henry Slesar or "The Four Dragons" (Fable)
📚 Poetry such as “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allen Poe or “No Man is an Island” by John Donne
📚 News articles on current events, science, history, etc.
