This is the second in a series of year-long History classes, specifically covering Medieval History. This class uses the Curiosity Chronicles curriculum to teach Medieval History for 2nd to 5th graders. Curiosity Chronicles teaches history via conversation between two main characters - Mona and Ted - allowing for the study of history to feel more fun than academic! The student textbook and activity guide will be provided for at home use. I teach in a Socratic style, preferring to ask students for their thoughts instead of imparting my own. As a result, classes tend to be discussion-based. Each week, we will read a chapter of the student text and complete the student activity pages. The first meeting each week will focus on the textbook work, and we will complete the text, work on a timeline, complete map work, and finish any additional review in the second meeting. Our general class outline: Week 1: Murasaki Writes a Novel Week 2: Queen Seondeok Creates a Golden Age Week 3: Christianity Splits East and West Week 4: Ghana Trades Gold for Salt Week 5: England Gets Invaded for the Last Time Week 6: Ethiopia Carves a Church out of a Mountain Week 7: The Christians Go Crusading Week 8: The Khmer Build a Giant Temple Week 9: The Iroquois Make a Confederacy Week 10: Four Inventions That Shape the World Week 11: Genghis Conquers (Almost) Everyone Week 12: A Slave Becomes Sultan Students will have the option to read aloud or follow along, at their comfort level. This class is intended as an elementary history class, so while additional resources are listed in the textbook, we will cover them only as time permits. Students will need access to their textbook and each chapter's activity guide materials while in class.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will gain an understanding of Medieval History. They will learn how civilizations interacted, and create a timeline to understand how many cultures developed across time.

Lista de útiles escolares
I will provide a digital textbook and activity guide for each learner. Students will need some of their activity pages printed (maps, coloring pages). Students will also need to be able to access their textbook and activity pages during class. Pencils, and crayons or markers will also be needed.
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Fuentes
The student textbook and activity guide will be provided to each student.
As this is a complete, pre-written history curriculum, the textbook pulls from multiple sources. We will also use public domain photographs, primary source documents, and insights from texts such as "America: The Story of Us," "A Brief History of Japanese Civilization" and more.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello! My name is Care, and I am a teacher by trade. I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent children - specifically those with ADHD, Anxiety, ASD, and gifted diagnoses. I love reading, knitting, Final Fantasy XIV, and Bluey!
I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education earned from Northern Illinois University. My teaching certificate is now out of date, as I have relocated to Canada. I have a wonderful spouse, and we have a thirteen year old child. Our household is body-positive, rainbow-themed, and neurodiverse. I enjoy spending time with kids, and talking with them to discover new ideas together.
In my classroom, learners and their families have the right to:
- Be treated with dignity and respect regardless of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, neurology, marital status, or sexual orientation
- A safe and healthy environment
- Be treated as your learner’s most important people
- Receive timely communication about the learner’s temperament, behavior, compliments and concerns
I am not perfect, but I do my best to try to help everyone feel included and accepted for who they are at all times!
