Experiencia de clase

  • Students will learn about different mythical creatures & beings, their mythology, and their real-life counterparts are (if they have any). They will learn about the similarities and differences of the mythological creatures & beings that we are talking about that day. They will also be able to work on their art skills in a judgment-free zone.
I am a historian, scientist, and member of the LGBTQIA+/queer community (asexual, panromantic; she/her/hers). I teach mythology, science, and pop culture classes here on Outschool.

I graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Forensic Science and a focus on mythology and research. But I have been a teacher for over 8 years, working with students from toddlerhood to teenage and beyond. I have always encouraged students to learn based on their own learning styles, so my classes incorporate different varieties of learning, including interactive elements.

In terms of art, I have been creating things since I can remember - I love painting and have worked on many things, from silhouette paintings, tie-dye-styled quotes, and scenes from my favorite fandoms.
Students will need art supplies of their choice, so I will list some options below of things they may need. I will be using paint and digital methods, but your learner is open to choose what they work best with.
If you would like to sketch: sketchbook/paper, pencils, sharpener, and eraser.
If you would like to sketch & color: sketchbook/paper, pencils, colored pencils/crayons/pastels, and sharpener.
If you would like to paint: canvas/sketchbook/heavyweight paper, pencil (for sketch), paint, paintbrushes, and a cup of water.
If you would like to create digitally: iPad/iPhone/drawing tablet, drawing pencil, charger, and a cord.
If you would like to write: computer with a blank document open, charger, cord OR notebook, pencil, and eraser.
Además del aula de Outschool, esta clase utiliza:
Mythical creatures & beings can have more intense backgrounds and mythology, so aspects such as destruction, violence, drowning, kidnapping, and murder may arise as to explain these myths and their methods but I will not dwell on them in the class and will try to keep students from focusing on those aspects. If your student is more sensitive to these topics or gets scared easily, you may want to stay in the same room with them or check on them throughout the class.

We may also watch short scenes of each creature from media (such as movies, video games, and tv shows) that may have a PG or PG-13 rating, but I will not show any explicit scenes (no sexuality, gory violence, or profanity) - they will only be used to show the creatures & beings and their methods to enhance a student's art.
